New Map of France
The U.S. Dept. of Education has approved a new political map of France for use in our text books to provide better understanding of French culture and history.
(Okay, I don't like French-bashing in general, but this is funny!)

They would never choose this map for a class in the US.
1. The shape is too close to the real thing.
2. It has years of german intrusions that might actually make students think and learn something.
3. EuroDisney isn't listed.
4. It was done in 2003 instead of the normal 30 years out of date.

Yep, thank god for more realistic AVALON HILL games or I would have grown up thinking the RISK board was actually the map of the world.

They did forget to mark Corsica as part of France. This map may still work for our schools...

and there is no Russia, it's really Yakusk, Irkusk, Siberia, etc. And south America is made up of only 4 countries.

Perhaps my posting it wasn't very Nice. *tiddy-boom*
I didn't think the town names were very good, either, but the highways made me laugh out loud.

The highways are somehow worth it and educational (I didn't know there was a guderian bypass right through the Maginot line in 1940, and I didn't know the 1940 attack on Paris used the same route as the 1870 one).
But the city names are pathetic.

I guess I am kind of simple minded but I liked Spareus. It reminds me of a gambling city in Nevada called Wendover. The locals from Utah who frequent it call it "Bendover."

It would be better if they would actually use more french words, such as Aperitif pour l'allemagne.
That provoked a chuckle.
