I'm Down, I'm Out, and Not in Beverly Hills
We've lost our internet service again and I don't know how long it'll be till we get it back. If everything goes right, maybe tonight, but if Murphy shows his ugly head, we could be without service for a couple months.

Please Do. It's nice to know if I have to stall the Friday night games, hoping you'll show.

Well Berz... I wish you the best of luck and hope the Murphy doesn't come to live with you
I would go nuts if I had your internet problems. Isn't there a better service provider in your area?

Berz, whatever you do, don't switch to the provider that War uses.

We had to change the username in our linux set up and the kid who handles that kind of stuff is off at college. We told him before leaving home to write down the process for making changes and his instructions were flawed so we had to do it over the phone. Everything is back to normal...for now...
Nice to see ya Smash.

I live in the middle of the Aussie bush and my new One Way Satellite service is completely reliable and not too expensive = Recommended over cable or DSL etc.
Broadband in the Bush
The parrots hate it...

Not sure, but it may have to do with our system being a network with multiple computers each with internet access thru one line.
Okay Deity, what's this about a one way satellite dish?

I used Linux back in the days when transparent proxy servers were not easy to implement in Windows. I taught myself the basics, but it's a real pain; if I hadn't lived with some computer geeks I never would have kept it working.
But nowadays its dead easy to have the setup you want within windows, if you have WinXP or Win2k, thus circumventing Linux.
Alternatively if you get dsl you could get a dsl modem/router that would obviate the need for your proxy server. Satellite broadband should be considered a last resort.......you probably have some proper broadband suppliers in your area unless its very rural. Given that you are a gamer it could be worth it........mine is £23 (about £15 IIRC) a month.
Good luck.
