What should be done with Saddam´s palaces?
THIS IS NOT A WAR THREAD PLEASE DO NOT TROLL ABOUT WAR HERE
What do you guys think that would be best to do with Saddam´s palaces? Since so much money were poured into it, money that won´t comeback, maybe giving them a good use could sort of "repair" the damage done by Saddam.
I think they should be transformed into government buildings, like museums, libraries, and even a not-so-lavish presidential palace. The most extravagant stuff like sports cars, whiskeys and gold furniture could be sold at auction in Las Vegas (sleep at Saddam´s bed for only 500.000!!). Or maybe something should be spared at a museum?
A very beutiful old railway station was transformed into an excellent concert house in São Paulo, so I think adapting buildings are possible.

I would rather sh!t in Saddam's bed than sleep in it. But I agree those palaces should be repaired and turned into some public benefit for thi Iraqi people.

I believe that they should be turned into libraries.
As an aside, I also think that various religious buildings in western cities should also be turned into libraries.

I've seen today Saddam's weekend residence on the news, near Tikrit. It has suffered pretty much, and most furniture is ruined, but it seems to be cheaply rebuildable.
Make them swimming pools. All of them.

For some reason I've been thinking about this question myself.
Many of the palaces are so large that even after repeated bombings large portions of them look like new and the rest seems repairable.
The ones in Baghdad can be used as government buildings: Iraq needs at least one presidential palace and maybe some new ministry buildings. They can also be given to universities and/or converted into libraries and museums.
There are some out in the countryside that are in areas too sparsely populated to be accessible to large numbers of people, those are hard.
Maybe we could convert some into lavish hospitals.

I would like to see the UN completely relocated to Iraq and housed in these buildings.
First it would mean jobs and income for Iraqis servicing the UN offices (sorry to NY and all the other cities that host the UN but you can afford to do without it).
Second the diplomats and bureaucrats would have a constant reminder of what it is really all about and why not to fvck it up next time.

Since the US was singlehandedly responsible, so, maybe the US government should move there.
