The nomadic wandering years...
I have started playing the few turns that our peoples wander, looking for a place that will supply them with food, shelter and beer ingredients for centuries to come.
This is the result so far....

Well, 3750BC and this is what I've found. Thanks to HTower who was in #apolyton chatroom when I was doing this for some good ideas on movements.
The West settler still has a move....

alright, now i really don't like this map so far.
for the westernmost settler i would move him SE 1 space then build a city
for the northern settler i would move 1 space north or 1 space north east and then build a city.
which unit is it that still has a movement point left again?

It starts to look like we had a good location to build our capital on our start.
But go with HTowers directions and then we can start building explorertroops so we can take a look at ou world...btw do we pop huts or have we restricted ourselves from that to?

Mmm, that's a tricky map. Looks like coping with big swaths of similar terrain will be the order of the day.
I like the idea of popping the hut before we found... but that would cost us a couple of turns. Can we settle close to the muskox, in such a way that we could potentially access other, unseen specials that might be part of the same pattern (by moving 1 square SE and founding, for example)?

Pop the hut before settling, chances are we're getting a NON-unit

How about this:
West settler goes E, then pops hut, then SW, SW and founds. East Settler goes NE and founds.
Sounds OK? This seems to be the quickest way of getting the hut and founding without any overlap.

Well, I don't know why you'd send the E Settler NE to found... why not found near the Special? At least if we build in a place that might be the middle of a 2 or 3 special pattern, we might be able to mine the grass later and get Silk or Game.
If we move NE we might find another special, and we might not.
Otherwise, I'm in favour of moving both Settlers once, popping the hut, and then founding city #1.

Once we know the resource seed from the hut, can we also find the hidden specials?

with that 1 hut, we can identify the hidden specials. Given the information we have right now from posted pictures, we can pinpoint a 4-special site using the Musk Ox (from Civ II poster) or Game (as MGE Civilopedia calls it). And as a side note, hutfinder is leading in the polls almost 2-1

OK, fine, so we are going to find some surprises on this map. So what? We still have to play (and use) the terrain that we find. Let's get a couple of cities established, gewt some Settlers going, explore a bit to find the direction we should expand into, and get a civ built!
Dithering is just a path to losing. Grass with gold is not the worst place to start and I say let's start building our civ here. Take advantage of what the terrain offers and work things out from there.
Let the Eastern Settler move 1 square West and build a city to get us started. Let the Western Settler move 2 NE and then East a few turns to explore for good 2nd city site.

since the poll starter said it was to be a 3 day poll, using hutfinder we can say that (127,55) would be a 4 special site using the musk ox, and the eastern settler is on one of the hidden specials right now - if we want to use the 4 special site, go east, southeast and found - if not, well, that's the elected official's perogative
