So much for dancing in the streets I guess. This could get real ugly quick.

I actually wonder how Americans react, when a Resistance movement forms itself in Iraq. How will they explain it to the US-public ?

It's not like they speak for the entire Iraqi people.

They will be denounced as Muslim extremists or Al-Queda sympathizers. Don't worry, they will come up with something good. They always do after all.

Iraqi opinion is split. Right now, many are pissed because the US, the new sheriff in town, stood around and watched while gangs of thugs ran around and destroyed what was left of Iraq's infrastructure. (Good job, .) Iraq, however, is not homogenous, and many people are happy the Americans are there.
The trick really is to get Iraq functioning quickly and set up a government that will be able to survive the inevatible civil war. The question is, will the US be there when it starts? If so, it will take the form of a war of liberation against the US.

I don't think the people of Iraq will unite to drive out the US. More likely each group will try to get the US on its side, promising to the latter that it is the best choice for a stable Iraq and that the US should support it.

24 million people in Iraq, right?
Bound to be a hell of a lot of people that liked Saddam and his way of doing things.

Personally, I'm glad to see it. Just 2 weeks ago, this kind of political speech would have been met with bayonets.
One of the interesting aspects for me was that this was a Sunni Islamicist crowd.

If I recall Dan, Washington said that equal rights was a prerequiste of the next Iraqi government, so that means no Islamic fundementalist types.

Yes, however the interesting part is who they protest against.
Not that this wasn't expected from the more... religious types of Iraq. Since one thing the US doesn't want is islamists getting to power, they know who their "enemy" is. (as was Saddam).

An often repeated lie is still a lie. The U.S. never gave a single chemical or biological weapon to the Iraqis.

They imported the Anthrax under the claim that University scientists were going to use them for research. Believe it or not scientists routinely trade micro organisms. That little fact is more then enough to scare me especially since Iraq did it so why can't Al Qaeda? Hopefully, this sort of thing has been stopped in the last 25 years since Saddam used lies and deception to get his hands on Anthrax.

So far only in thousands though, and Baghdad is a huge city. I doubt there are that many who want to go fundie, although we could expect there would be a few.

Actually if it's in the thousands it's a pretty high number for that sort of thing. Considering most would be afraid to go out.

It's the presence of men with guns that intimidate them.
They don't know your intentions for sure. (and after the bombing it's not like they think anyone is going to stop you if you decide to open fire)

Good... they never would have even been able to do this before Saddam was ousted.
