Either you're lying, or you are completely deluded. The majority of people in our age group have no problem with homosexuality whatsoever. A VERY small minority are completely against it.
Of course with the elderly the majority are against it (but not all), but then they lived the majority of their lives in a time when being gay was considered a 'sin' by the majority.

Hey, congrats Asher
I'm not sure why are they now a bit "closer" to you.
Maybe because they think it was a tough step for you and you need proof of their love and support.
Maybe they think that you being gay is a result of lack of support or some "cry out for help".
I hope it's the first thing. But I've heard that many gay people couming out experience the last.
Btw, Azazel, why don't you havea girl friend? You're a pretty big guy. Not very very ugly as well

I think it's like 12+ to up to hmmm 16? 18? maybe. When teen boys hate gays, loathe boy bands and remind other teen boys about it. Oh yeah and when they are 14 they start to pretend being gay and "humping" eachother. Or that's how I remember it.
I'm straight, but also 22 and never had a girlfriend... so unless my mom saw some of my hidden porn when I was living home or she is suspecting something.
I think 22 and no girlfriends is more rare than being gay... well I don't know poly standarts.

Well how would you know anyway? You're hardly independent. I bet four fifths of your mates are part of that dodgy LGB society anyhow.

And you're more independent Bod-I-can't-have-a-well-thought-out-opinion-of-my-own-too-busy-being-the-voice-of-the-People-to-hide-my-own-bigotry-ingtons in what way exactly?

Oh yes. Your spectacular success with women is proof enough of that....
How does being gay make one less independent? Considering redjon's at university, he's just as independent as you are if not more so.

The majority of my friends are not from the lgb, considering we only meet once a week and I've only ever met a couple of people outside of it (aside from my bf).
Some people from my floor had never met a gay person before, but no-one is homophobic - they just asked questions about it.

Er, belated well done Asher-- I really should chide you for not coming out as a Bisexual, but hey, do whatever you're comfortable with.

They probably were'nt surprised because of that letter I sent them.
I'm glad to hear they took it so well, apparently. It's too bad we live in a world where it is such a big deal, but that's the breaks.
Here's hoping you find someone who makes you happy, regardless of their sex.
Took a lot of courage on your part. You should be proud of yourself.

Well, it's not that simple anymore.
On a 1-10 gay scale now, I'm probably sitting in at around 7 rather than 5 like I was a couple years ago.
SS: Thanks.

It was soooo tempting to make those two lines rhyme.

I'm proud of you Asher, and I think your father is going to suprise you more and more as time goes on. I think part of his actions are based on "Show him I support him" and other actions are based on "Does this change how I feel about my son."
I think he will realize that you are his son, and that the most important thing is that his son is happy.
I had to find out about this on "Counterglow" of all places.
ACK!

I don't post her much anymore as you can probably tell, but I think this thread is worthy of a post.
I wouldn't have a clue what it was like to be gay and certainly wouldn't know what it takes to go throught telling your parents about it.
Dunno what I can say really, I respect you a lot for actually telling them. Well done.

I have neither the time nor the interest to get into a big argument about this, but I'm glad to see that there is at least someone who finds this all disgusting. I doubt that any parent is ever happy that their child is gay, and I'd bet that the majority of parents are at least dissapointed internally. Why shouldn't they be? No matter how often people try to apologize for it, homosexuality isn't "normal." It can never be the norm; its not conducive for survival. Who has a mother who doesn't want grandchildren? Who has a father who doesn't want to see his son find a good woman or give his daughter away to a good man?
Furthermore, I've never met a gay person that was even tolerable. The sticking point isn't even the homosexuality, its their personalities. The gay people that I know/ encounter on a daily basis are either obnoxious flamers, disgusting 90 pound effiminate sissies, self righteous super-leftists, or some combination of these three traits. My basic outlook on life completely conflicts with that of anyone who fully supports homosexuals and the leftist social views that their culture promotes (After all, I am a straight white male who is not ashamed of my race or the history of my people. That fact alone makes me an evil person). I find the physical act of anal sex to be repulsive and perverted, even when it comes to straight anal sex. I pity the gay man who will never have to joy of being with a woman and experience sex the way that nature intended it to be.
I know that I'd be if I had a gay/lesbian child I'd be devastated, just as I know that my parents would have been devastated if my brother or I had been gay. I won't be a "supportive parent" if my kid is gay. I see it as a violation of the natural contract. Parents have children and take care of them so that, in return, the children grow to take care of their parents, have children of their own, and carry on the family line. Yes, I think that it is a person's duty to have children, and I consider those who don't have children to have missed out on something. They didn't fufill the most basic purpose of an organism: to survive and multiply.
Asher, your "I am bi-sexual, but girls take too much work" story seems like complete BS. If you really wanted and appreciated women, then you wouldn't mind the so called "work." The "work" is some ways very enjoyable, as it provides the foundation for the relationship. Yes, the sex part is great, but the work part is also great. I'd assume that you'd have to put forth some kind of effort with a gay lover too, unless you are some sort of shallow nymphomaniac who only wants physical relationships. Even if that is the case there are plenty of slutty women out there to satiate your lust. To me it seems that you don't want to put in that kind of work with women because, deep down inside, you aren't interested in them. I think that you are not bi, just plain gay. I don't care; I don't know you, I don't care about you. Its your deal, but that's just what I think.
Call me a bigot. I don't give a damn. In fact, I wear it as a badge of honor. It means that I haven't been brainwashed by the bullshit "progressive" values that the MTV culture tries to drill in our heads. In the end, I'm going to have children (lots of them. My fiance and I are planning on at least four), and I can teach them my values, the way that mine and my fiancee's parents helped to shape our values. In the end, my family line will survive. We will always win out in the long run.
Go ahead and attack me all you want, because this is probably my last post here. I'm bascially finished playing Civ 3, taking away my main purpose for coming here. The OT arguments aren't very informative or interesting; the only thing they are good for is posting things to piss people off. I'm sorry, but I just can't take these online internet forum argument sessions seriously, and I'm not going to waste my time bothering to argue over the computer with some hack with dubious credentials. Why waste my time arguing with some high schooler or college drop out pseudo-intellectual who thinks that he is enlightened because he knows how to cut and paste IRLs from whatever biased tabloid he gets his information? I know that there are some highly intelligent posters on this site, people with whom it would be possible to have a meaningful discussion. GePap, a University of Chicago grad, comes to mind. He seems like someone who would be interesting to speak with, but having a discussion online takes far too much work and isn't as satisfying. Besides, for every person with decent credentials there are a hundred questionable people with whom arguing is a waste of time. After all, we all know that no one is going to change their basic perspective on here, so why even bother? This forum serves as a good way for people to vent their day to day anger with half assed argumentation. Other than that, it serves no purpose. Enjoy your forum, you anonymous computer "talking heads." You won't have me here antagonizing you anymore.

And for the record, I'd be infinitely more disappointed if my son turned out like Nationalist than if my son turned out to be gay.
And I am neither a "obnoxious flamer", nor a "disgusting 90 pound effiminate sissy", nor a "self righteous super-leftist", but you, sir, are an obnoxious idiot, a disgusting 200 pound overly-masculine buffoon, and a self-righteous super-rightist.
And I know what it's like to have sex with a woman, so your pity isn't warranted.
