I was able to turn "Defender" over. Robotron 2084 I could play for hours on one quarter....of course The door to the coinslot didn't close properly and I found the lever that the quarter hit to give you credits.
 ACK!

There was a game with "Space" in the title, very similar to Asteroids. Can't remember who made it, but it was color.

Eh, what is Lost Vikes then? I beat Lost Vikings quite a long time ago... some levels taking a damn high amount of time, but I figured it all out by myself, one of my proud achievements. That was during the time when I was way too sick to go out or work, so I just sat there playing the vikes .
|
I've played Lost Vikings as a console game. I believe the thread title is 'arcade game', hence my surprise at your mention of Lost Vikings.
It's a great game, however the second is not as good as the first.

I did some research and I'm either talking about "Space Duel" or "Space Fury" here. Some interesting history on vector graphics arcade games:
1 Memories of a Vector World
2 "VECTOR GRAPHICS" THE RISE -- AND FALL? -- OF A CONTROVERSIAL DISPLAY TECHNIQUE
3 All About Asteroids

I've beaten Space Harrier and that Sega jet fighter game (I don't remember its title).
Oh, and that newer Star Wars one- with the seat and the huge screen.

I think that's Space War, a very old game based on Star Trek. Fun in it's day, even though the display was monochrome such as Battlezone and Asteroids.

I used to own and play Atari's Gravitar, of which only 300 were made. I bought it in 1985 for about $50.
Space Duel was the color vector game y'all are talking about... you could even link the two ships together and have them spin independently. Nobody also has mentioned Black Widow, another color vector game.
And don't forget the Star Wars games!!! (designed by the same guy who designed Gravitar.)

Gravatar. Hm, the name rings a bell. IIRC, Star Trek isn't a vector game.

Strange question. Surely the purpose of arcade games is to encourage you to feed money in?
Yeah, Pacman crashed on screen 256 - but I could never do it. In fact, I'm average at reaction games. It took me a few years (and quite a bit of cash) to realise this.

After beating Final Fantasy III in one sitting, Im convincec that any game is beatable if you put your mind to it.
I can beat Tekken, Marvel VS capcom or Soul calibur II w/ one quarter. Generally fighting games are easy to do... even if the owner jacked the diffculty level, if you play enough you can generally piss them off by being able to outplay than what they intended. The most difficult thing in fighting game that will allow you to beat it is being left alone so that you can actually finish the game before beign interrupted and ending up facing an opponent who's better than you.
I love pissing off arcade owners by playing more than they bargained for. I even negotiate with my opponent saying "hey winner of first round carries the game to last round and gets to win."

Here's one I haven't seen mentioned.
It was a favorite of me and my friend. Marble Madness.
I seem to remember beating it, but I don't recall the exact ending.
That was a very fun game.

Thanks for the links. Now I remember Gravatar, you have this little ship that you fly into various "planets" to destroy gun emplacements and such. Very, very, strange.

only arcade game i ever beat whas championship baseball - partly because i would only play games that could be completed on the first token. Those games that took 2 tokens to start and then 8 more tokens to finish were nothing but a ripoff in my eyes. With this game, you played either till you won the game, or the computer opponent took the lead.
Anyway, I don't remember how many games i won, but 2 games stand out in my mind:
1) played with the St. Louis Cardinals, and scored 33 runs in the top of the first (personal single inning record), but eventually lost. For a while there i had a rather large crowd gathering behind me.
2) played with the Boston Red Sox, and was in a dogfight the whole game, but squeeked out a 51-45 victory in the end. I had made it to the 9th inning several times before, but that was the first one i won.
