Just wondering how many people have them turned on.

Yes, I have them turned on. I have a fast connection, so it doesn't take long for them to load.

On. First, some look cool. Second, I sometimes notice an avatar of an interesting poster and read the post... easier to notice when quickly looking through.
Had them off for the first weeks after vB switch, though, as loading times were intolerable.

Most have them on I'd say. They are fun, unless your connection is really slow. That is the only reason to turn them off.

Does it matter that much on loading times?
Always have them on.

On. It has been like that since my dial-up days. As others said, it is easy to skim through a thread and find the interesting posters at a glance. And I can see my cool avatar too.

Yes,
but they would be more helpful if some people wouldn't change their avatars every 3 weeks or so.
Come to think of it though, most of the people who post in the civ3 forums rarely change their avatars.
btw, where's the banana?

I have avatars turned off at home, but I turn them on at work where I have a faster 'net connection.
So I vote #3.

Yes, I have that feature on.

56k connection and yes. They're not that big in size, and Loinburger's avatar makes me think he's a total prat before I even read his posts.

Definately. It makes it easier to see who wrote what.

I can't beleive so many people have them turned on
I surf with them off since they're so ugly.
And only keep mine because it seems to work as a sort of charm

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
On. Easy to skim read, though I sometimes mix people up.
As for the avatar contest, there's a thread somewhere on the AC section.

Just because yours is ugly doesn't mean others are ugly too

Some avatars havehigh artistic value. Thanks to avatar I feel I do not need to go to any gallery or something. I'm meeting so many cultural people here already
