Starting Position
The Map is finished. After it is decided which colour, civ name and leader name and title will be used, you're ready to get going.
MrWIA and UnOrtho have asked me to post a screenshot of the starting location. The first shows the opening screen; the second shows the terrain after the map is 'cleared' with Ctrl-Shft-M.
Good luck to you all! May the Banana be with you!

I think we should start by moving the scout north.
The best cityposition within one tile range would be NE as you get away from the known montains, and get next to a river which is very important for the capital.

Move around a bit. There might be sea and jungle enough for everybody.

What about moving him south, then east it would get closer to the apparent junction of the two rivers and end on a mountain which should dissipate a lot of fog.

If everyone agrees we should move settlers, I presume we'll start mining the shielded grassland we start on immediately?

I would move the scout onto one of the mountain first, then unless we see something special (i.e. a valuable special within easy reach) we move NW and settle.

In that case the southest mountain. It looks as if it has the most prommising suroundings.

If you look at the extreme edge of the tile to the south of our settler, right at the edge of the fog the color seems to shift to sandy desert or coastal appearance.
We may be nearer to the ocean than we think.
I agree with moving the scout onto the southern mountain. If it turns out to be coast, I would still move one tile NW and settle; leave it for our second city to have the sea.

Move the scout toward the rivers - placing the capital on a river will be a great advantage to us.

But that wastes one move, everything made visible by the first SE move would be visible from the final position. by moving S, then E you end up on the same mountain tile but get a glimpse of the western river also.
I think.

GF South and East certainly seems a good move. The only comparable ones would be SE E or NE E. Both of these will put us on Mountains, but neither would reveal as much as GF's suggestion. Also, The S E idea will take us near to that suspected coast region of ruby_maser's.
South and East, anybody?

It's some time since I made an investigation of the Ci3 sight system, but IIRC you would not see mountains 3 tiles away even if you are on another mountain, but you see them two tiles away if you are on the ground. So the difference would in that case that you have a chance to spot another mountain.

Two tiles South looks like a coastal tile to me, or possibly floodplain/desert. At any rate, the scout could go either S then E or NE then E. I agree with settling NW of current position unless we see something amazing with our scout, like a herd of cattle.

Could the authors relocate our starting position one tile west onto the forest tile along the river?

south and east for the scout, road for the Worker (more trade sooner) and then mine. Settle NW on the river.

No, I'll have to agree with going S E to the mountain with the scout, then we'll decide on the best possible start
