Nothing special about the game, but a lot about how they handle updates and are in touch with the players.
Not many have been so quick to fix/adjust and enhance.

Of course the support is great. But, I also think that the point "ladder" system of the metaverse is a nice addition to a TBS game.

How can I only choose one? Support after release is great, the Metaverse, starbases, and the economic system are all very good. I chose diplomacy because it's the first time I've ever dealt with the AI like I would a real player.

Aside from the sheer level of customer support brought to GalCiv, most of this stuff was done elsewhere before (although GalCiv is pretty coo in bringing it all together). For instance:
(1) Diplomatic Influence: border setting and culture flipping via influence was introduced in Civ3.
(2) Politics: while not "galactic", SMAC had the Planetary Council which also proposed bills. So did MoO3 (although MoO3's blows)
(3) Metaverse: people have been doing these sorts of ladders independently for awhile. Stardock just set an official ladder.
(4) Going into Debt: MoO3 did it.
(5) Starbases: called 'tile improvements' in Civ, Civ2, Civ3, C:CtP, CtP2, SMAC, SMAX, etc.
(6) Good and Evil: Black and White (Although I guess that B&W wasn't TBS ...)
(7) Diplomacy system: hmmm, even the diplomacy screen is set up like CtP2 and Civ3 ...
(8) Battlebanana Ships: available in MoO and MoO2 (class between battleship and titan in the latter)
GalCiv may not be strikingly original, but the features are implemented so well - a fact in itself that is original. Of course, originality isn't all its cracked up to be. MoO3 was somewhat original (hardly revolutionary - so don't even take that line) but it doesn't work. What good is originality if the game doesn't work. Its kind of like Sonic Youth - sure they were original, but their brand of noise didn't really work as music.

But it didn't have such an influence with the AI' behaviour. Civ3 didn't have this little bar saying how favorable the AI is to you with such consequences to it in diplomacy.

Agreed, but it wasn't pushing THAt far the decisions that are taken. It was very seldom and on very wide issues. Not like NATO or UN's decisions on many things that change economy, politics... Including humanitarian stuff.

Like you're saying, but it changes many things since centralized and all. All these things are added with a certain twist that makes it original. Tile improvement isn't like having a BASE really. And as you said, what makes it real good is that it's all in ONE game

Multithreaded Ai definately but if I could vote for more than one catagory I would also pick company support.
Great game, continuing to have fun with this one.

An AI that actually comes closer to being artificially intelligent than artificially idiotic. Close to being a first outside of pure strategy games like Othello, Go and Chess.

Company Support is what really turned me on to this game. It's sweet to not be forgotten once the first few bugs are caught.

I voted for the good/Evil morality engine, it's one of those GalCiv's compounds bringing a fresh air to the TBS. But let's not forget the impressive multithreaded AI, Metaverse, diplomacy system ( though still need some fixes, namely trade/per month cursors ), starbases and resources ( but I agree on fixing the modules economic power and maintenance, actually overpowered ).

Good and Evil.
Now I can role-play in my TBS! Who woulda thunk it?
