Oh, I made a terrible mistake.. in next rounds there will be 6 teams in both groups, NOT 8.. so 2 will drop.

Oh, I suppose... I just wish they weren't playing one of the Yank teams I actually don't mind. If they were playing, say, the Stars, I'd be wearing a Trent Klatt jersey and running pantless through Stanley Park.
Wait... what?

I understand. And at the rate things are going, Vancouver will face another deserving underdog in the next round too.

Canucks can use all the help they can get.
Oh, and on-topic... no one can tell me that Canadian roster?

What happened to Canada Cup / World Cup? Was that tournament discontinued after the introduction of dream teams in the Olympics?

Yeah sure the US has team there. Of course. Chelios was supposed to come, but then he didn't feel like it after all.. but they have Paul Coffey.. he's always there, like every year. The US team was assembled from mostly rather young players, some average nhl players.. They gave us trouble in our practice game just few days ago, but now they seem to have bad luck. I watched their games, and what I can tell is that they didn't play that bad.. they were more skilled team in both games to my eyes, but they just didn't manage to capitalize on moments, had a bit bad luck too, and for example Denmark scored many times comparing to shots at goal, so goalie wasn't exactly on fire. But everything counts, so bad for the US. Against the Swiss they played pretty OK, but didn't score. They had plenty of opportunities to score, but it seemed like it just wasn't their day. Now they have to play to stay in the A-Pool, which is kind of bad, if they drop.. I don't know if they can play for world cup or olympics if they don't manage to get out of there? Well I'm pretty sure that they're gutted and will come back strong, avoiding pool B.
So my thoughts would be that they had average team (not great), and whole lots of bad luck, maybe lack of motivation too. We're used to see hungry US team, since they are young players mostly, and some nhl players who haven't usually won anything big.. and you're representing your country, so..... They said these games has 500 millin viewers, so you don't want to look too bad. YOu want to win. I don't care if you think it's not the toughest tournament there, but coming there not wanting to win bad enough?.... no excuses IMO. But as I said.. they had lots of bad luck and they didn't play that bad, scoring was a huge problem to them even with all those chances.
Olaf, they still play world cup. It's the most wanted in international scene (therefore excluding stanley cup). It's the toughest international tournament with best players from the US and Canada too. They play it every 4 years, and it's not too long when heads collide!
Obiwan18, I'll dig up Canadian roster for you. Just a minute.

Looks like the official site is down for a while. www.ihwc.net that is. From what I remember, Canadas team is pretty good. They've played good so far, and they're coming strong. I'll post rosters when it gets working again.

While I agree with Pekka's post above on the US team's performance, you may have a point wrt the interest taken in this thread by Americans. Many more of your countrymen responded to my thread when Greenland beat the US twice in the Pan-American Handball Ch'ships recently.
Just thought I'd mention it once again.
Pekka, I got the impression obiwan18 was after the Canadian roster from the 1949 47-0 win.
As if that's even interesting so many years later.

Last time was 1996, next time is 2004. That's an 8-year break. I remember the semi- or quarter final sudden death thriller Sweden-Canada where Sweden hit the goal post just one minute before Canada finally scored in the 5th period. That was a tough one.
http://www3.telus.net/worldcuphockey/
The Olympic dream teams have mostly been embarrassing for all but the Chech Republic. But they had only 2 players who did all the work. Jagr who made the goals and Hasek who blocked the other teams from scoring.

Just for those who haven't realized it yet - the Swiss hockey team won 1-0 (the American team had one goal not counted though, unjustified...)

Denmark-Switzerland 2-6.
The Swiss were sharper on their offensive and played better overall. So it was a fair result IMO.
So Denmark finishes 3rd in the group and will carry no points to the next stage.
Still, for even advancing from the group play.

*Bump*
and
Just heard the result of Denmark's first match in the qualifying stage:
Canada-Denmark: 2-2!!!
This is even more of a surprise than the 5-2 victory over USA in the preliminaries.
Go Denmark!

Denmark is really taking top teams by surprise..
And Canada has a good team, and they've been playing good too, beating the Swedes etc..

Good, comprehensive story from The Toronto Star on the 2-2 tie between Canada and Denmark.
Apparently, Denmark scored 2 in 21 seconds towards the end of the first period, and then defended with all they got for the rest of the match.

You know the US team is brutal this year, they have not won a single game.. that's hardly an upset.
Biggest upset would be US over Russia in 1980 or Belarus over Sweden in 2002.
