Winston, Wow! You're still not out of the games then! You need a win over Sweden, but.. it's looking good so far.

Yes, but unfortunately it was just reported that Peter Forsberg scored 2-1 at 15:08.
First goal for Sweden Per-Johan Axelsson at 08:28, and equalizer for Denmark by Frederik Åkesson at 10:01.
Hmm...
I wish I could watch this on TV.
Edit: First period over, 2-1 Sweden.

I'm sure it is!
Playing against Sweden is something special in any sport. But this hockey thing is a bit of a novelty to us. Still, would be awesome to watch in the arena.
Did Finland play today?

We play as I speak.. Our games started at the same time. We're now leading Ukraine 7-0 and one minute to play in second period..

7-0! Not too bad, eh?
Denmark is now down 1-3. Axelsson at 28:35.
One of Denmark's best, Kim Staal, is out for the match with a dislocated shoulder.
So that's how the Swedes win their games! Dislocating people's limbs and all.

Staal is out? That's bad.... I know he's a good player.
But.. you're still in the game.. and even if you don't win it, it's good to give tough game to Swedes.

I guess that with regards to the Danish hopes of world domination, we'll have to return to women's handball. It was kind of cool while it lasted, though. I actually considered learning the basic rules of icehockey, but thought I'd wait until we reached the semis

@ Monk.
Well, it seems to be all over now.
4-1 Niklas Andersson 41:42
5-1 Mikael Renberg 43:17
6-1 Henrik Zetterberg 47:54
Couldn't they just win it marginally without having to be so cruel.

Thanks OFitG.
Final result 6-1 Sweden.
As Monk said, our world domination plans have been postponed till next year due to unforeseen circumstances.
And congrats to the Finns on the Ukraine win.

A 2-4 defeat against Latvia today concludes Denmark's participation in this year's World Championships - and lands the A-zone newcomers on a nice and rather impressive 11th spot out of 16 nations.
We'll be back next year trying our best to stir things up a bit.
Good luck to posters with national teams in the quarter finals!

Sorry to hear that, Winston, but the 11th place finish certainly bodes well for the future of hockey in Denmark. Something to build upon.
As for Canada... I still like our chances. Production is spread out, grit abounds... But the Czechs and Slovaks will be tough nuts to crack.
Never the less... GO OILERS- I MEAN- TEAM CANADA!!!
GO STAIOS!!!

Tonight, the real tournament starts: Finland vs Sweden in Helsinki, and the loser gets a holiday until August... Whatever the outcome, this will be a classic match!

Man, this game is so hot that the ice is melting! Finland won the first period by 3-1 and then advanced to 5-1 in the early second. But Sweden started to make goals and the score before the third period is 5-4 to Finland. The whole arena is boiling and the game is extremely intense. As I said, a real classic!

No suprise when the team was battling for 13th place.
Both american and Canadian hockey fans are MUCH more interested in the ongoing NHL playoffs.
I note that Canada won and will play the Czechs while the Slovaks will play the winner od Sweden-Finland which Finland leads 5-4 according to the IIHF site.
So despite some emerging hockey nations having good results, the medallists will come from among the traditional powers. I perceive that the gap with the lesser hockey nations is lessening but there is a way to go yet

anything can happen-- I notice that both teams haved pulled their starting goaltenders. salo got pulled 4 minutes into the second when it was 5-1 Finland so I guess Tellqvist has held the fort. Hurme got yanked between the second and third period so the Finns are relying on Nurminen.
. . . Swedes took a penalty but balanced by Finnish infraction 30 seconds later

Axelsson SCOOOORRRREEEESSS and Sweden has turned 1-5 into 6-5. It's only 4 minutes left. Jönsson gets a 2 min penalty. What a thriller.

Yes it was for the second half of the game, whereas Finland played like a team from the B-serie.

You are now lucky that I like Sweden. If not, I would definitely go on a killing spree right now .
It was a heart stopper, I can't believe we lost after leading the game after impressive playing 1-5.. This was the worst nightmare for us. Congrats to Sweden.
