City Build Orders
Considering the lurking horse, should Majestica rush a warrior? Should it even build a warrior? What about the other cities?
Imperialis can go from +2 food/+1 shield to +1 food/+2 shield by switching to the forest.
Majestica can go from +2 food/+2 shield to +0 food/ +3 shields by switching to oil/iron.
Dominion can go from +2 food/+1 trade to +1 food/+3 trade by switching to the seal.

Build horses. We need to explore, and they will be able to deal with barbarians as well.

If we're on a giga map, there's little threat at home from the AI this early on, and the chance of Barbs popping up to threaten without warning is low (but not non-existent). I would have thought the biggest gain now is from rushing exploration and getting to as many goody huts as possible, so rush build horses, and take the risk that you might lose a city or two to the Barbs - if you build horses at home in your most important cities as defenders in the early stages, at worst we'll only lose 1 vital city, unless we're really unlucky.
On the plus side you'll have a source of bribable Archers once we get Diplomats, or and you'll still stand a chance of capturing the cities back with your attacking horsemen if not.

This is an agressive game. Let's do it right and play it that way. Horses in all three cities and hope the AIs are slow to expand.

I think 3 horses to expand as much as possible, Majestica can swith to a warrior if needed, with no wasted shields. That is, by the time it is clear we need defense, there should be just about one row done.

Horses in all three. Something that hasn't been mentioned beyond Bob_Smurf's first post is the labourer allocations. I think we should switch all of them to the top resource producing squares in order to get at least one horse out of all three sooner. If we have to sacrifice some growth to do so then fine, we will get it back in advanced tribes and nomads.

Agreed with MWiA
This is not a perfectionist game, so we want to keep our first cities small and crank out horsies.

I think so also, the only added shields will be one each in Imperialis and Majestica, but in Imperialis that halves production time, so I think it's worth it. The 2 extra trade from Dominion would be good as well.

three horsies.... then sets, then warriors...then depending on what happens.....and if we get units etc or find an early civ etc....we can decide the course of action....
if we keep the archers for defence..we may get some vets which means horsies at home are only needed to chase kings (we hope) risk vs reward peeps...lets explore and expand
