Science and technology news
This thread could be topped so each of us can post the science and technology news from our countries here.
In the past week:
Noosland Aeronautics Agency announced that the Solar Explorer will be launch on schedule later this week. The Solar Explorer is a scientific satellite designed to collect data with regards to the sun and to perform various experiments.
Fusion Research Initiative announced that Apolyton II became fully operational, eight months ahead of schedule.
Noosland National University Nerosciences Department, Noosphere General Hospital, and Noosland Institute of Advanced Biomedical Reseach have concluded a three year long study of treating various choronic illnesses with accupuncture. The results will be published in the prestigious journal, The Lancet.
Noosland's first phase of coversion to fusion power is complete. All population centres (or clusters of such centres) with 5000 or less people are now powered by a mix of solar panels, wind turbines, and fusion reactors. The cost of supplying electricity to these centres is reduced by 50% by preliminary analyses, and savings of annual maintenance costs are estimated at 40%.
A Southwestern University materials research team announced that they were successful in growing large gallinium nitride (GaN) ingots. Gallinum nitride is a very useful semiconductor material with uses ranging from making efficient LED's to high power electic components.

Also After exetensive years of devolopement(I spend 400 billion in R and D a year) Jackson airforce has public annouced its newest jet fighte, F-20. This Fighter is based on stleath technology, it primary defense is that it radar sigiture is that of a small bird. All weapons are in a weapons bay inside the body of the aircraft to futher cut down on its radar signiture. It top speed is mach 2, but usually travels below the speed of sound to aid in it not being seen. The Jackson airforce hopes to be able with in the next 10 years to make the change over to the F-20 as it primary fighter aircraft. Also a version for the navy is coming out with in the year so that the carrier fleet can add these aircraft to their airfleet.
The main purpose of the this fighter will be air patrolls of our own airspace as well as conducting missions with in hostile airspace, mainly to destroy the opposing airforce with out being seen or heard.

-The Holy Empire of Iguana Fire has reportedly spent 3,000,000 í (iguas) on a project to reportedly turn lead into gold; starting a new Ministry in their Research and Development arm entitled the Ministry of Alchemy, headed by the widely respected Doctor D. K. Leudeer.
-The Holy Empire of Iguana Fire is nearing a breakthrough on reasearch into alleged "stun guns" so that deadly weapons will become a thing of the past.

A Noosland National University semiconductors research team was successful in producing high powered LED's rated at 35W with a 35% efficiency using large GaN waffers. These devices are more than 3.5 times more efficient than incandescent lights. They promise to revolutionise worldwide lighting and herald in a new era of sustainable development.

The Ceroo Science Institute has successfully tested a new sea-going vessel driven entirely by solar power. While of little pratical use in the the rainy Cerooan seas, in hotter climes it could prove useful, offering cost-savings (no fuel to buy) and helping to protect the environment.
Subject to private sector contracting, the Solar Foils are to be on sail in the next 3 years.

The Noosland Institute of Science and Technology has been testing a personal turbo prop airplane that is constructed of very light alloys and other materials. As you may know airplanes are a lot more fuel efficient than cars. We hope to promote this craft to help with sustainable development.

Dakmoristan's Department of Ocean Resources announced the beginning of tests in the building of undersea habitation domes.
The construction techniques, transportation systems, and mechanisms for the generation of oxygen and drinnking water were first thought about several years ago, but practical materials were not available until now.

The USJ has finally fished its work on a reusable space craft, for use in the Apolyton Space Station project. (I will make the payload it can carry near what US space shuttle can carry and same number of crew, only difference it is only one stage, on external fuel tank or rockets.) Production lines are now up and running. We expect to produce about 6 of the shuttles, and more if anyone else is interested in them.

Jack: We would be interested in such technology. We have slightly more advanced space craft, but have not managed to create a reuseable one yet. Might we coroborate on this, for mutual benefit?

Yes we welcome such help. The only thing is that etheir you have to have a special launch pad for this shuttle(helps launch it off giving it more energy), or you need a 747 to lift it off the ground and then launch at about 40,000 ft.

We can bring a launch-pad over from Zetaris. That will not be a problem.

The Solar Explorer has been launched successfully. If on plan, the satellite will take up an orbit around the sun in less than a year.

The National Research Association of Celth (N-RAC) has announced the folowing developements:
1) The research in desert soil enhancement is slowly approaching its climax. Scientists say that they were able to grow basic food plants on desert sand, not using any kind of irrigation. The secret will not be revealed yet, but it will probably be a major breakthrough in new food production techniques. The Sultan expects large amounts of income with the sale of these techniques.
2) Using semi-permeable mirrors in solar energy sites, will improve their efficiency by approximately 7%. The research in this field has been ceased due to lack of funding. If anyone is interested in that technique, N-RAC would be pleased to sell the patent.

The USJ has just rolled out the final shuttle in the last production run, USJ now has 6 of its newest shuttles ready to work on the internation spacestation. Training missions to get crews ready for the construction of the space station are now underway.
For all other nations, please contact us if you wish to buy these shuttles. The more you buy the cheaper it is to make them, and please do not want long as we will have to shut the production line down soon if no one wants to buy a shuttle from us.

The spokesman of N-RAC is pleased to see interest in the result of years of hard work!
Now the question is how much would Noosland be willing to pay?
See, the higher efficiency of the solar energy sites leads to better profitability of non-fossil energy. That means higher income AND environmental health!
So what is the price?

In a follow-up report, the Department of Ocean Resources announced that it was preparing a site about two miles off Dakmoristan's eastern coast for dome construction.
The location, designated Merchantman Run, is near Zegon and its seaport. This should minimize the length of supply lines and facilitate the movement of people and materials to and from the site.

You're a greedy person.
What about a trade? We'll share with you the technique of fabricating solar panels from black silicon polycrystals that improved absorption rate to 95% without using any toxic chemicals, in exchange for your technology?

Jack: Marijuania would like to purchase two of your shuttles. We can pay in bongs (our currency) or weed. We are prepared to cooperate with the development of these shuttles, by using parts from the previous adminstrations space shuttle programme (the cause of the war with Athkala and Method).

Each of the shuttles is 25 Billion in US Dollars. FOr two, we will charge you 42 Billion for the two and give you enough spare parts to keep the shuttles running for a year.

Marijuania has developed a new type of fighter, the Hastings-class.
It is a break with traditional design, in that it is butt ugly. It is very fast and long range, moderately armed with air-to-air and air-to-ground missiles, the ability to carry nuclear warheads. As such, it loses out quite badly on manueverability, which a rotary machine gun turret compensates for. It is equipped with state-of-the-art sensory tech, simliar to that found in spy-satellites. This extra weight again has implications, but the powerful engines should deal with that.
The fighters are cheap to manufacture in separate facilities, and assemble later. Anyone who wishes to buy some of these craft, then place your orders here.
Marijuania's military capability will be published shortly on the Military Strengths thread.

Noosland's second phase of conversion is now complete. All population centres except the five biggest cities are now powered by fusion, solar, wind, and hydro. Power generation has been decentralised to a community/district basis. This allows built-in redundancy in the power supply system, and reduces maintenance costs. Overhead power lines have been replaced by ones that run through underground conduits, reducing their vulnerabilities to various elements such as high winds, hail, and freezing rain.
All the coal and oil firing plants supplying these centres have been decomissioned. They will be dismantled, and the land will be turned to other use, or release to nature.

Marijuania is very interested in this fusion technology. We have a large programme ourselves, which is nearing a good result!
May we exchange something with Noosland for your technology, to save us 3 months of R&D spending?

We would like to announce a successful test of our Ion engine technology (first used on the Voyager and Pioneer spacecraft in the 1970's in RL).
An interplanetery probe was launched on a Marrakesh class rocket, and sent into an eccentric orbit of Earth. At perigee, it engaged its Ion engines, powered by an on-board nuclear reactor, and was able to power out of orbit, to the deep reaches of the Solar System. The current reported speed is 20km/s and rising. We expect, after a period of acceleration, the probe to reach 75km/s, and be able to continue powered spaceflight for upwards of 80 years, due to the large cache of fuel.
This technology will be used on Marijuania's new class of shuttle, the Marley-class, to enter service shortly. Of course, because it sacrifices acceleration for speed, it needs to be used in conjunction with ordinary rockets, and it is largely useless in Earth orbit. It is best for interplanetery ships and space probes, as well as the theoretical possibility of weapons to shoot down vessels in heliocentric orbit.
