This closet reprobate knows the answer, but shall remain in the closet for a while longer to give others a chance to play.
Scrolling beat-em-ups are great. The new Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles game will attempt to resurrect the genre, but will almost certainly be utter cack.

DAMMIT! I stopped coming into this thread because all the games were obscure games that no one on earth (ie me) had ever heard of and i never got one right. AND NOW i find that I actually knew the answer and that a game i used to play and beat up on my sister was listed.

I 'll also refrain from answering DrSpike's challenge at this time to give others a chance to test their computer game trivia knowledge

Why bother when they can just google your description and find the answer?
(which I didn't do, btw )

I think that counts as winning. I vote that RPM has to think of the next game!

It happened today. Unfortunately I don't have a banning rod so I can't bust Spike's ass for spamming.

Commordore, ZX Spectrum and Amiga
Published by Ocean
For many years, Wiz and his fantastic cat lived happily in brightly coloured Wizworld. All was not well however as a malevolent force had discovered this vista and intended to stamp out brilliance once and for all.
The evil Zark and his horrible sprites have moved in to eliminate the spectrum and render all landscapes drab and grey.
So jump in your transporter and with the help of your faithful servant Catellite restore Wizworld to its former glory. Collect icons for special effects as you manoeuvre to shake off the alien forces. Stunning graphics create the mood for a thrilling and compulsive game with hordes of hidden features and extra controls.

A very original game..........though I'm not sure whether this game came before Helter Skelter or not.
FP we obviously have very similar tastes.
I'll let someone else answer since we seem to be hogging the game.

Okay, I'll try one.
Clue 1: Released in early '80s for both C64 and Apple, under two different names (I think that there was also an IBM port as well). For full credit name both games.
Clue 2: Much later another another classic was developed based on these games that involved Cows.

It wasn't a game to do with Llama's, was it? Revenge of the killer Llamas or something? I have vague memories of a game like that and, IIRC, they made a sequel with cows.
On the other hand perhaps it was all some sort of hellish nightmare.

Nope, and Nope. Don't take my clues too literally.
Clue 3: On the most difficult setting the AI start 4 tech levels above you (At least on the C64 version).

Give that man a lollipop, a clue has been unlocked. Now figure out what the names of the games are.
Clue 3: The apple version's name is has had a thread title in the other games section in the last week.
But, full credit only for both games.

Okay, practically giving it away now.
Clue 4: The Apple version's name had the initials RFTS
The C64 version's name had the initials IG
That should help get one of them.

Let's see, see...hmmmm a nice game. I'm working under the restriction of doing things in rhymes so it should have a nice ring to it.
