I'm going to put up the white flag till I get more hints. Or, there is the stark possibility I've never actually played the game (I'm a young and tender 21 after all)

Maybe my hints are a little tricky this time around. Some good trivia here though, when it's finally answered.

Games i played on the C-64 are pretty limited as i had a TI- 99 back in the mid 80's - a couple of my friends had C64s though. for some reason clue #6 makes me want to guess "Narnia" (maybe its from reading the Chronicles of Narnia and am thinking of the Voyage of the Dawn Treader)

...and I didn't have a computer, before 1985... and back then, I was pretty young... so what I remember is also pretty limited...

I give up.
It's Seven Cities of Gold. Developed by Dan Bunten (later Dani Bunten Berry), one of the pioneers of multiplayer gaming.

Seven Cities of Gold was a solid commercial triumph. It brought together real-time action, strategy and exploration in a historical adventure with a genuine smudge of educational value. In fact, the much-despised term “edutainment” was originally coined to describe this game. With sales of 150,000 copies across several platforms and numerous design awards, Seven Cities catapulted Ozark into the ranks of the elite developers; and nobody complained about the fact that it was designed for only a single player.

I'm surprised by that. This was a fairly big game for the C-64. EA put out a DOS port in the early 90s that's floating around at some of the more obvious sites where old games are available.

I'm never going to get a question correct so i'm just going to jump in anyways.
My game was on Amiga.
I'll start with some vague clues and then get more specific.
1. This game had Unicorn vs Basilisk

I thought it would be easy. I loved that game. Killed my sister all the time. Got to be a demon with the little club guys and could kill her powerful guys with my little club guys.

The clubbers were the best. If you knew how to work them right you could kill just about anything.

Ok i waited to see if there would be other takers of Static's offer.
platform: PC/Amiga(maybe Atari ST?)
Clue#1 Its set in the future, you start with a crashed ship and need to build up a colony.
Clue#2 'Derrik'(spelling?)
Clue#3 start very small and grow to explore your surroundings.

More clues!

I think I'm right, because Derrick is the name of the guy who made it (or at least help make it), although, that was Outpost 2, not the first Outpost, and I don't think Outpost was made for the Amiga or the Atari ST, coz its quite graphic intensive.

Clue#4 It felt like a nice achievment when you invented your first satelite and discovered your first habitable planet outside of the one you started on.
Clue#5 'If only I had enough money to employ a new military advisor.'

ok i think War of Art is close but for others who need some more:
Clue#6 In some ways this game was really really good and in some ways it was really really bad.
It could have been one of the classic games but just missed out because of a few annoying design issues.
Clue#7 'oh my god aliens! - ah good aliens great!'
Clue#8 'oh my god more aliens - OH MY GOD they are BAD!'
