Well, hopefully they are in deep development for AC2.
Then again, AC is so very good that I wonder how it can be improved upon....besides graphically.

In the last Firaxis chat at CFC, they mentioned working on a new patch for PtW.
Also, according to the latest information, Firaxis and Infogrames will make an announcement of their next project at E3 in mid May.
AC rights are owned by EA, so I don't think we will see a new AC.

Yup, Infog rames.
And yeah, they did say that would announce something at E3... I don't think that an expansion announcement is worth a special E3 announcement.
Now, when I first saw the news I was thinking they would come up with a new version of colonization... (Somehow I don't believe they'll go back to SMAC.) But now after seeing that announcement at AVault again, I'm thinking of new speculations. For instance:
Quote:
|
The event comes four years to the day after Meier announced Civilization III at a similar gathering during E3 1999.
|
Exactly four years from Civ3 announcement? Civ4 maybe? Or MoO4? It is Infogrames after all. Might wanna fix the mistakes of the third iteration by bringing in Sid. Either that or another SimGolf thingie.

SimGolf is EA, so I don't think Infrogreed will be announcing anything about it

Oh, good.
Well, let's see. What has Sid Meier worked on...
Pirates. A remake of that maybe?
Railroad Tycoon. Already being worked on. Nothing new to announce, probably.
Civilization, in many different flavours (Civ1, WinCiv, CivNet, Civ2, etc..). I hope he is done with it. I love the concept and have played all of the games, but really, I don't think there is anything to improve without radically changing the gameplay, as Civ3 + PtW has shown clearly. (That is, they tried to change a lot of stuff, but in the end, while the game is good, many people were disappointed. I don't think the legacy will continue. Not this time around, any way, I don't think. Unless, they choose to go fully 3D on us, in which case that might be it...)
Colonization. Don't know how much to bet on that, but it would be sweeeet.
Magic: The Gathering. Meh. Don't think so. Not E3 scale.
Gettysburg and the Civil War Series. That may as well be it, but I didn't particularly like any of those games, so I'm hoping they would choose something else.
Alpha Centaury. Would be nice, but like mentioned above, chances are slim.
Any other speculations?

I doubt they are doing anything too serious...probably throwing around random game concepts/ideas and stuff. IE: semi-lazy people.

Sid was throwing around some hints in one of the gaming conventions or maybe at last year's E3. There are some old threads in the Community Forum on this.

Do you have any links, Urban?
I for one would hope for SMAC2, but I understand that isn't the most probable.

Well, I did a search of these forums, and here is what I found:
http://www.gamespy.com/articles/augu...er/index.shtml
An interview with Sid at GenCon...
On the second page it says:
Quote:
|
Sid Meier: Yes, we're looking at some of the older games and seeing what might look good.
GameSpy: Would that include your old stuff? Like Pirates, F-15 Strike Eagle, Gunship…
Sid Meier: … Silent Service, Red Storm Rising, Covert Ops. And we're looking at the other games as well.
GameSpy: Like Master of Magic and X-Com?
Sid Meier: Yes.
GameSpy: You realize Usenet is going to go nuts over that answer.
Sid Meier: We're not going to announce our next game until October or so.
|
I don't really think that is a sufficient identification of Sid's intent to do X-COM. Though now I can actually see him doing it, as opposed to before, when I thought such a thing would be impossible.
Another thing:
Quote:
|
Sid Meier, in an recent CGMagazine interview, expressed interest about redoing XCom or Master of Magic... and made some cryptic remarks about Pirates!, whilst some petitioned him to make a sequel to Antietam!
|
Posted by DarkCloud. I searched for more on that on the net, but there doesn't seem to be any more info... Well, that's about it.

And just after I posted, DanQ throws the news afrticle out at us. Check it out:
http://apolyton.net/civ3/
Quote:

But real world events has Briggs thinking about updating the Civilization series. Among the features: An increased role for the media and a more true-to-life world governing body. In this more realistic setting “Civilization’s” United Nations component would be less kumbaya, more realpolitik. More powerful members would have the power to veto or go off and wage unilateral action.
|
Could they be thinking of yet another Civ game?

seems like a great Xpack-better un, modern age using current events as a basis. And tack on a decent scenario editor. That would make back the money, and be good all around

Wow! I've never tried those games, but from what I hear, they are among the best PC games ever right next to Civ series. I just hope that Firaxis would not mess up like they did with Civ3. Anywany, thank you for the information vovansim!

No, really, there is a new X-Com game in development, but I can't tell you if Sid and/or Firaxis are involved. I'd personally not bet against it though. MoM2 would rock though - but only if they simply do a paint job, and increase the size of stacks = bigger battles.

MoM2 is the holy grail of computer gaming. And much like with the original, I predict it will never be found.

If you are talking about the one that is covered in great detail by Gamespy, then no. Neither Sid nor Firaxis are involved in that. And plus, it has been announced a loooong time ago. Called UFO: Aftermath. Developed by some unknown (to me at least) Czech team.
