Mayday!
Happy MAYDAY!
Hurray for the 8-hour day! Hurray for the right to organize! Hurray for the end of child labor! Hurray for safer working conditions! Hurray for the minum wage! Hurray for Social Security! Hurray for Universal Medical Care . . . oh wait, we Americans don't have that one . . . YET!
Eight hours for work!
Eight hours for sleep!
And eight hours for what we will!
Let us remember our fallen comrades who made these victories possible and gave us all a better life.

A better life? LOL.. if you are talking about your hero Che Guevara.. well ask the great Bolivian Armed Forces what they think.

edit by MtG - no links to pictures of corpses. BTW, to get his head propped up at the right angle for the cameramen, they slit his throat after he was "executed." Nice guys, huh?

Sorry MtG... just showing what the great Bolivian Armed Forces did to protect the country's sovergnity. All that Che did was go and kill people. He went to Angola and killed a bunch of people.

Time for a joke which fits the day:
Question : What's 2 meters long, smells of cheap, old vodka, and has a medium age of way over 50 years?
Answer : Traditional communist march of 1st of May.

Believe it or not, some Americans still have 8-hour days. Since I don't get time and a half for OT, I still do 40-hour weeks, and mostly 8-hour days. Some times a little more, sometimes a little less.

Good thing we don't celebrate Mayday here in the States.

My dad's got one of the Vietnam-era May Day posters in a frame in his office. I can't remember what year it's from--it's a "plan" for thousands of protesters to descend on Washington and occupy all the government buildings until the US pulled out of Vietnam. He went and was duly tear-gassed, but I don't think they managed to occupy the Pentagon.

May day is an old pagan celibration which communists co-opted and tried to turn into an international workers celibration. Of course they aren't the only ones to do stuff like this the Christians choose December 25th to celibraite Christ's birthday because most pagans already used that day as a New Year's Celebration.

Please Fez, linking capitalism to bigotry is very discussable, but if you deny any link between capitalism and imperialism, you don't know squat about the politics and economics of the end of the 19th & the beginning of the 20th century...

You people are full of it. Plain and simple.
No it is not discussable. It is a fact. Capitalism = freedom.

Perhaps he's ignorant of working conditions before WW2. 20 hour days, child labor, unsafe conditions... all in the name of profit. In fact, socially minded presidents like Teddy and FDR instituted such great improvements to this country. But Fez wants to return to the good old days when trusts and tycoons effectively ruled the country.
