Does this happen to any of you?

I decided to try a warmonger strategy for once, so I played as Germany on Marla's Map. I had all of my cities (only one of which, Berlin, have I built ) build barracks, then archers and swordsmen as soon as they could. I've been pretty much sending them off towards other civs as they get built. I've noticed that they seem to bunch up and string out. However, I got the most interesting formation I've ever seen before just now do your units tend to line up like this?

Surely, we have all noticed that if you send a stream of units from one location to another location, they will follow the same path, the quickest path at the time the order is given.

If the starting point or the ending point are different, then certainly your string of units is purely coincidental (and rare).

They're in a pretty formation, ordered and everything. And they DO have diverging endpoints

If I'm playing war, I tend to at least start a road heading towards the enemy.

That way the units start travelling as individuals but tend to end up moving in a stack as they near the objective - the terrain will usually bunch up the horses with the swords.

Mind you, I don't use this strategy often - I tend to build until the middle ages, because I tend to find even if I win the war, my Civ is underdeveloped.

Why don't you move them in a stack instead? Then they could all attack a city on the same turn and the archers would be defended by the swordsman.

When attacking a city, I usually wait until all the units are there. They string out again as I send them out of the cultural border to heal.
