The Apolyton Alliance (awaiting name)
Since the collapse of ODSN, there is not longer an alliance capable of defending the region. Moreover, Myself and Giovanni Wine, King of Wine, decided to start an alliance. This has been discussed and put into place over the last week or so, and now I am here to announce it. While we do not have a name, the alliance is now operational.
The Alliance is purely for legitimacy and defence. There are only 3 instances that can bring this alliance into action. The first is if a nation in the alliance is subject to an unprovoked attack. The second is to enforce a legitimate court verdict, where both parties agreed beforehand. The third is if Apolyton region is attacked by an outside source, the alliance will defend the region. These are the only cases in which it will come into action.
Because we wish to have an alliance of like-minded, non-aggressive nations, who we have good relations with, and can trust, this alliance is invitation only. If you wish to be considered, please PM myself or Giovanni, and we will discuss it with all member nations.
Member nations are (in order of acceptance): - Akiria
- Wine
- Eternal Cold
- Admaria
- Rotaria
- Jackson
- Unterhammer
- Redfern
- Mad Capitan
- Tea Kaygia
- Noosland
- Zetaris
As we still need a name, can anyone please suggest names
Thank you

Marko's Hammer, Dan's Spear
Seriously, what about Aegis? Aegis is the shield of Athena, the Greek goddess of Combat, Victory, and Wisdom?

Possibly, although not so sure about having it named after a shield with Medusa's head on it, especially one which has an American naval vessel named after it, but the Aegis Alliance sounds pretty sweet.
What do people think?

The Hammer of Markos could be good Or "The Hammer of the Mighty Grecian Warrior", or even, owning to the fact that it enforces the legitimacy of the court, and has 3 judges who are members, "The Hammer of Justice"?

IIRC, the AEGIS is a system on certain US crusiers and destroyers that give them enchanced capabilities to intercept incoming missiles. It is a defensive system, that's why it's named AEGIS.
As for the Medusa's head, don't worry, we're just facing it outward.

Uberlandia has been skeptical about alliances and the commitments it necessitates, but the leaders have decided that this Apolyton Alliance is a worthy organization. We humbly request entrance.

Mind you, a motto will be required as well once a name is settled upon.
Personally, I find Ageis to be a bit lacking as the name of an alliance, unless it is an acronym.

So are we going to call it: Apolyton Aegis Alliance then?
Personally I like it very much

A bit boring IMHO, and Apolyton Alliance would imply all of Apolyton, which it is not. I quite like the Hammer of Justice, or something to do with Markos/Dan, or even something Civ related.
If we support justice, and prevent war, how about "The Collective Consciousness"? Also SMAC related (to Akizeta, who happens to be Akiria's leader )

I would like a name along the lines of something that is civ related, since we all love Civ games.

The foreign minister of Iguana Fire expresses an interest in this alliance to preserve democracy in the region.

Marijuania would like to join at the Alliance's earliest convenience.
We are currently going through an election, though it is almost certain that the Libertarian Socialists will win, a party with an agenda based on The Mill Limit, health, education, but with much greater resources given to the economy, the police, the military and the space programme. Should this party win, Marijuania will still aim to be (if we are not already) the most staunchly pacifist nation in Apolyton, and will only war to defend ourselves, and those with whom we have alliances. It is a logical step for us to join the Alliance, and we will hope to contribute back to that Alliance.... free biftas for all!

I'm sorry to say but I believe that the "Free Land of Peaceloving People" (see link in sig.) is more pacifist than you
P.S. Do not dare attack them cause their security is watched over by the Kingdom of Wine and the Principality of Savoia under the "Dolcetto Treaty"

Ah ok, I stand corrected then. You cant fault our intention and we will give Peaceloving People a good run for their pacifism so to speak.
Dont worry, it is an anethema to this nation to attack anyone unprovoked, or in anything other than self defence. We trust that this will not be an issue with Peaceloving People, or indeed any of the Dolcetto Treaty nations, and we commend the commitment to pacifism that those nations represent.

DC: Iguana Fire has been accepted into the treaty. Thank you for the interest, and welcome. You should receive a telegram with details soon.
Sheep: I am afraid that due to recent events, and the perceived volatility of the region, we feel unable to accept you into the alliance. We are sorry.
Marijuania: Your application will be processed. We will get back to you with an answer shortly.

Have replied. I am sorry for neglecting my duties, I had been so wrapped up in the PBEM ACDG that I had hardly posted on this forum for a few days. This is now rectified

Where does the Alliance stand on the situation with Elethar?
We are not requesting assistance, that is of course down to the neutral parties in the alliance to decide, although of course, while it is not essential it would be nice from our point of view.

The alliance does not have a position. Each member nation may have it's own position. If a member nation is attacked by Elether, would they please post here, and the alliance will be activated to defend them.

For the record, Marijuania officially states to the Alliance that it has been attacked by, and is now engaged in a war with Elethar. All the appropriate info and evidence are on the other threads.

Elijah: Have you joined the Alliance then? I must not have received your acceptance Welcome to the Hand of Themis, and all alliance nations are called to help Marijuania in the defense of their nation, and to condemn the actions of Elether.
What sort of nations are Elether and Marijuania, in terms of terrain? We need to know which troops to send

What sort of nation [is] Elether ... in terms of terrain?
|
Elethar is divided into four main terrain zones; in the south and west areas, there's a very dense jungle, broken occasionally by coffee fields; this is the main diamond-producing area. In the centre, there's a large area of plateaus and mountains, which have little natural vegetation but provide a perfect growing area for coca and opium poppies. This area also contains most of Elethar's mineral resources. In the eastern area, it's mainly just a huge desert; and in the north, there is a large expanse of fairly flat grassland, which is the main agricultural area.
