I really enjoyed LotR2, and just a couple of months ago reloaded it and played the scenario again.
It was a good 'first effort' at combining turn based with a real-time element. What is more fun that breaking down the doors of a castle?
It did take me about three weeks to get it to work on my present system, and I scoured the websites for the game without seeing anything too interesting.

I dislike the game. The program uses *cough* random *cough* events to hose the human player, and all you need are archers.

I liked lords2, even if the computer was a complete moron. i can't even begin to imagine how many of the computer's peasant hordes died at the gates of my castles

the ai in real time battles was very bad, but I think it was one of the first game to have it, and I had a lot of fun making strategies

Good game concept, horrible execution. The way the combat works is just totally, completely, horribly, unblanced. The key determining factor is how the computer decides to stack your units in each particular battle. 10 groups of 5 archers are much more efficient then 1 group of 50.
It also needs to allow you to design your own castles. I'd personally like more customization in the unit deparment, aswell.
