If you don't use foundation, you're building straight off the ground. I don't know if that has any effect, but I suspect it may make the house more prone to some sort of damage like infestations or something.
I haven't experimented with it, but you might also be able to make basements. I know you can build within the foundation and even redecorate it.

Just noticed that the fears and wants doesn't change that often as I thought... it's just that every morning it looks like they changes...
I haven't tried to use the basement yet, sicne I couldn't find a way to build a door to it...
But damn it's fun to see how they react and talk to each other
There's just too much to tell...
The only negative part is the camera, which can be quite annoying

Another thing about foundations is that they can be build overtop of slopes and bumps. If you want to have a house built on the side of a hill, it's neccisary...

It's interesting how things change during work... you now get options that could change things, which could either help you or make it worse for you (depending on what you choose)

I made a new sim family that consists of two sisters. After moving into their new house, the neighbours came to welcome them... and of course, Deiter led the pack. He even wore his military uniform (he's a recruit - atleast, untill he can find a decent job in the arts [or stealing there of]) So the always outgoing Tiffany rushed to the door to greet him (while her sister lay in bed reading). Deiter's immediate response to her welcome was to insult her, which caused her to run into the corner and begin to cry.
Of course, that only opened the door to him teasing her, but after a few more sour exchanges he decided he was being to malicious and apologized... after which they where able to have some more relaxed conversation. Atleast, untill deiter remembered about the other neighbours who came along with him - a married couple who hadn't even made it up the porch yet because they where so absorbed with each other. So, deiter thought he'd get them into the party and went down and started teasing elizabeth. She cried, too.
After that people started mixing around a bit more, and Dieter mostly just stood around looking serious, and occasionaly throwing out an insult. By the end of the day he had also made the other sister (Tiffany) cry, aswell as some other random sim that was walking down the steet.

Now it actually sounds like fun... so you can control Deiter while you're on somebody else's house, or did you just make him so sour the AI will even RP him that way?

Hmm... apparently I have a ghost in my house... He's invisible, but he keeps playing with the baby in house, and walk around with the teddy-bear... nobody's dead in my game though... not yet...

Cool - now you don't need to fork out for a babysitter.

I really like the fact you can see beyond your lots field of view. It gives the sense that you are in a neighbourhood and not by yourself.
I think I can remember seeing shots where you can see other houses from your own house too.

That's just his personality.
Infact, I don't usually control my sims at all, unless they are alone and doing nothing. The AI is really good now.

Deiter's gotten himself into a bit of a rut. A war started (due to some silliness about city sports teams and hotdogs) and he bailed out and went AWOL. He has no money, nothing to do. He's too grouchy to look for a new job. He's lonely, but can't even afford a phone so he has to wait for random people to walk down the street and accost them. He ate cereal with sour milk for dinner. He's not even in the mood to paint anymore. He just stands around cursing and fuming.
Poor Deiter. A true starving artist.

LOL
What goes around comes around.
Oh man this game looks deep. Maxis didn't reveal much of the game as much as I thought.
Picking the game up tomorrow morning. Another 8 hrs or so.

Hmm... one of my sims has the fear of adopting a child... but she also has a want of adopting a child
In my game I have the couple Tatyana and Melissa. One day, as Melissa had a day off, she invited the post-girl over. They quickly became friends, and within short time they were both in bed together (not 'woohoo'ing... just kissing), then Tatyana came home, she didn't go into the bed-room, just wanted to watch some tv in the living room, so she did... no problems there, but for some funny reason she got angry as the mail-girl came out of the bed-room (a few minutes earlier than Melissa)... good to know that it's not just what they see, but also that they can put 2 and 2 together

That's fairly impressive. Same with Deiter, but in a sadder way... Good to know that the AI is much improved.

I can't wait to pick it up! Some questions though. Are the graphics much better, or basically the same? Is the worst problem the camera? Did the new additions (ages, enhanced marriaged and first kiss type things, fears and dreams, etc.) live up to the way Maxis described?

Come on - it's going to be far from perfect just so they can release hundreds more expansion packs. How many did they put out for the first one?

Defently much better... but it also requires a very good computer to play everything on high detail... I've got a 2.4 GHz and a Geforce FX 5900 or something like that, playing everything on max, and I experience slowdowns from time to time... specially when they change clothes and near baths (because of the small particles! Only when very close though)

For now yes...
Ok, I wish they would have done the friends/jobs part a bit better, but it's the same thing as in the first game

The fears and wants is a bit too easy... sometimes their wants is so simple as just getting an extra cooking skill, or talk to a certain person (or even just a relative)... and fears could be as simple as just cleaning up (kids don't like cleaning)... this should have been a little tougher
Those extra stuff you can buy with these 'wants' points you get are too cheap... after short time I could afford the most expensive of them: The drink that makes you live longer
