The thing that kept me interested in The Sims, was trying out things you couldn't do by yourself (in real life that is )... In my last game (Which I played about 6 months ago) I had a household with 8 females ( )... it's really tough in the beginning, since you've only got money for 2-3 beds/couches
Anyway... The point in bringing up this old thread is to share some of the new information there's about this game:
In this article, they mention The Sims 2 has "DNA". If two people gets kids, the kid looks like a mix of the parents. They even mention the many possibilities of the mix, like if one of the parents is some alien (green skin, big black eyes, etc), while the other parent is normal, the kid has lots of differents ways it could look like:
Quote:
|
When two Sims breed, the game mixes up their genes to create an all new Sim. The result is a kid that eerily resembles both parents, not unlike real life. The fun part comes when you breed bizarre couples: When an attractive blonde female Sim and the green-skinned alien Sim got it on in the genetics demo, the kids that were generated varied from wide-eyed pointy-eared humans to downright goofy looking green kids with black eyes.
|
Now this sounds interesting
I also like the fact the Sims now grow older. I have been waiting for this for a long time now

Btw, this also sounds interesting (About the DNA thing):

If the character-generator and breeder alone sounds like a fun toy, you're in luck. Maxis is planning to release these tools to tinker with online before the game even ships.

Nothing in comparison with a friend of mine that had a prison which was run by the Fångvårdsanstalten family. And indeed it looked quite Spartan.

I enjoy the graphics at least .
Maybe I'll get it when it gets down to $20 just to start an Apolyton house, like DC did .

I really liked the Sims. Not for the playing value, of couse (I found it annoying), but for the design challenge. How many asthetic houses can you make with a limited set of furniture? (most of the user created stuff sucked, except of course the 7ds things).
I must say I'm looking forward to tS II, especially if they implement curves and diagonals correctly.

I really look forward to The Sims 2! And btw, look at this quote:
Quote:
|
During the demo, we witnessed another new effect. It started to rain. The lighting of the scene changed as the dreary clouds moved in, and the Sims themselves all reacted with dismay as the raindrops came down. (The unfortunate Sim who opted to remain in the hot tub was in for a shock when the lightning struck...)

I think I read somewhere, that you'll be able to build windows on diagonal walls... I really hope this is true

My problem with the original is you merely play an abbreviated version of life, with even more restrictions, with the entire goal seems to be getting more toys.

The PS2 version of Sims actually has a set of goals for you to complete: such as fix the tv, make your mother dinner and get a job. Once you complete those goals, you get a new set of goals. For those of us who play a goal-oriented game, this mode may be interesting to you and will almost certainly be in the Sims2.

Sounds......un-simmish! The goal in Sims is to not have a real goal!

You can still play goal-less mode too. Some people just can't play games without goals though.

(after looking over the screenshots)
The game is looking really good. I'm woried about two things- one is the system requirements. I wonder what the minimun specs are for a huge game like that. The original sims seemed to convince a lot of people to buy new computers, maybe they're trying that again
The second is tha archetecture. I haven't seen what happens when you put a floor on a roof to create a patio, how many stories you can build (please, please be infinite with basements!!). There aren't any buildings showing how corners work with windows, angles, etc.

It's interesting how the lady looks at what's happening on the other side of the table, and at the plate she's carrying. Still no daylight, corner, or landscape pics

I hope we'll hear some more about that soon... otherwise I'm afraid there's not much news there, except for what we already know (We can build more than 2 floors)...
Btw, I found a couple trailers here:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/thesims2/media.html
I have only downloaded one of them... You need to be registered (Which you can do for free), to be able to download the files...

I've now downloaded both trailers, and the second one is pretty funny, though I doubt we'll see anything, about what The Sims do in that video, in The Sims 2...
But you've got the rights to hope, right?

If I didn't know you better, I would say that post was laden with sarcasm.
Interesting that they have indirect interactions now though. The lady serving food notices things going on around her without (presumably) the player clicking "notice dirty old man" in her action menu. Promising.
