This game is at a much later stage than any other PBEM I've ever played. I guess to some degree it's my fault for being so non-aggressive militarily.
I'm a micro-manager and it takes me a week or so to play a move and even with all that time I'm still not completely happy with the result.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I expect this game to last for some time to come. Waiting inbetween moves is ok with me because I look on each turn as project. Just a pure exercise in SMAXing. So, as long as we haven't lost FF, I'm willing to wait for his return.

Back, hopefully for good. My forum time should be improving shortly as I'll be returning to one job that has a degree of down time that will allow for this (plus I'm allowed to install SMAX on the comp at that same job.)
Turn away.

Wow-- this game is STILL going-- I played in Battlefield Earth 1 which started at the same time IIRC and we were done a year ago-- heck was it two years ??
This is the game where the Morganites get North America , the Hive gets Southern Asia and Zak gets a Russian start with the Drones in Europe and the Cult and at least one alien as the AI ?? Who is winning??

This is a SMAX game
Difficulty level is Transcend, tweaked (see below)
Players, in turn order, are:
Hive - Flubber
University - Archaic
Morgan - Mongoose
Drones - Qantaga
The game was won by Flubber: the Uni were destroyed and Mongoose and Qantaga conceded in around 2208 or soon thereafter.

Some months ago(March) there was a question about the result of the earlier Battlefield Earth game and I dug out the thread and we commented on the outcome then compared to what is happening now.
If you want to know what's happening at present I am sure I(or one of the other remaining players) could send you the turn with the password.

I would like that. In our game, there was great fear as to the possible alien menace so we shared a lot of tech early. As one of the worse techers in the game that served to my benefit. It should have benefited the Drones even more but I think that qantaga was still learning at the time. I know archaic was relatively new to PBEMs. The result was that it was a fairly quick conquest to take out the Uni and the Drones accepted peace rather than getting destroyed too. Then I could concentrate on taking Africa and starting some outposts in Alaska.
Mongoose played well but my Hive had just too much territory and by the time my African force had taken most of South America, he conceded.
The aliens were never a factor.
If someone PMed me with a turn and password I promise to keep it confidential

Yup I am always around. I find it easy to pop in here for 5 or 10 minutes on a regular basis but no way could I keep a regular turn rate.
To play well, I find I need a lot of time. For instance if I have trawlers, good play would be to patrol each and every one of them on the edges (returning to their harvest square). Good play would be to check every base every turn and every opponents base every turn. In my last few games I was playing VERY poorly -- Even basic things like correcting a drone riot would get forgotten in the face of childcare and job duties.
I still love this game more than any other I have ever played. I just don't have time for PBEMs.

Flubber,
If you like complicated positions, mine is a doozy. If you'd like, I'll send you the last turn and you can take a month or two to look it over. It will be nice because I have the Empathic Guild. I'd love to here your assessment of my position. I must say though that for the last 10 turns or so I haven't been playing optimally--the position is just too complex. We're just getting over a terrible bout of global warming and I had some serious flooding and raising of land to deal with.

Yeah, the Gaians had their backs against the wall from the get go and they had to resort to Nerve gas. That warmed things up for all of us. For more commentary on the war, check page 12 of this thread.

I'd be interested to see how things progress in this as well. The original Battlefield Earth was my very first PBEM. Brings out a nostalgic feeling seeing this still going.
