Show me a real town where the police, fire, education and entertainment budget are so well supplied that the citizens are happy and I'll guarantee someone somewhere is close to rioting over the level of tax they are paying to support it. In SC4 you can broadly satisfy your citizens demands. That is the most unrealistic part of the simulation

Actually, my biggest gripe with SC4 is the wrongfull implementation off Micromanagement.
I don't think this game is about checking each and every hospital, school, power, water etc... every month in order not to get any strikes but how and where to put your roads, commercial and residential zones to maximise efficiency.

Yeah, they should have put in an automatic for this. In real life the schools sends a mail to the mayor before going on strike, not after... at least I think so...

Well, I have the $20 X-pack, but I won't be able to really play it until Friday evening at the earliest. I've got a bunch of architecture stuff to do this week with a likely all-nighter on Wednesday night into Thursday to look forward to...
Side note: Bought it from EB, but also made the impulse buys of $15 Civ3:Play the World and $10 Battlecruiser Millenium. Grand Theft Auto III was pretty tempting at $20, but I might not bother.

At the Civ3 site, it said you do not need PTW to play with this new expansion. All you need is Civ 3. I have not heard that it would include PTW as part of it.
Civ 3 gold edition is going to be release with PTW, but you will have to buy the next expansion separate.

From the FAQ:

You will not need Civilization III: Play the World in order to play Civilization III: Conquests since it will contain all content including: Civs, leaders, special units, and features from the Civilization III: Play the World™ expansion.
|
And so as to not completely thread jack this... how about some screenshots from those who have it?

...and you're talking about screenshots for RH? Or Civ3?
I've got RH, but I don't have any large cities yet (Restarted the game), so I can only post screenies of my small town...

I'm getting it tommorow when the new circulars (don't you love that word?) come out.

So, how much replayability do you figure it adds to the game? I think you remember when we gave up on that "multiplayer" game we had going... I haven't really played since then. You figure the expansion adds enough new stuff to be worth the money?
(Yes, I know, it's sort of a very subjective question, but I am still not sure whether to buy this expansion or not. )

Havn't got it yet, but the new overlays do seem to be very handy.
Not enough in itself to buy it but combined with the new tilesets and staying in the patch loop, I guess you almost have too.
There does seem to be a big bug in the pathfinding regarding intercity commuting.

I was still playing SC4 until a few weeks before the release of RH. For me, there's only one game that beats SC4 in replayability (Worms)... but I guess that's just me

After playing it for about a week, there are some definite issues (some are non-rush hour):
Mechanics:
-The game will randomly freeze and/or quit to the desktop in the style of Morrowind (but not as frequently)
-You cannot name your saves.
-The game will not autosave.
Gameplay:
-Subway/train station usage statistics are misleading
-Parking garages draw almost no patrons (even when placed acording to manual)
Driving:
-Freeway onramps will suck you in. Sometimes you cannot aviod them.
-Some missions will randomly end when you go on/over mass transportation, like overpass onramps or the freeway.
-Unless you drive at the closest zoom, cars will randomly appear in your path giving you no time to avoid them.
-It's hard to tell how hard you're flying (a transparent pole going to the ground would help)
-The green circle representing the space directly under you dissapears in urban environments.
-Even when you drive fast, the bad guys/cops will still stop you.
(more as they come up)

Are you using leapard (sp?) speed (fastest setting) ?
This is due to some kind of memory overflow problem. the game has too many calculations going and can't keep and basically giving up in the end.

Do you want that feature or like the fact that it has been left out?
I do play on the fastest setting... it takes way to long for zones to develop without it. And the effects of changes made in slowest mode are minimal. Whenever I'm in the green, I go as fast as possible .

I like the fact it's not in the game... I have a game where there's no way to turn off autosave... I played the game twice or so...
