TBS - Warrax from Master of Magic.... lightning throwing chaos warrior
RTS- Krogoth was cool, but I liked the buzzsaw, nothing like a plasma cannon that'll cut lines of destruction straight through your enemies well clumped up base.

For mere 150 bucks difference. You get extra turret, teeney tiny more firepower, tince wincey more armor and bit slower speed.
Would be a better deal overall if it hadnt been for the build time. (Med tank is significantly faster).
Soviet still rules in that game anyway.

Zergling lacks air defense and has far worse AI than hydralisks. (Just about any melee unit in Starcraft has screwed up AI and isnt efficient compared to range)

Ooh, how could I forget the slaver from Call to Power? To bad you can't distribute the slaves evenly over your cities. I just installed the old CTP on my new computer. I haven't played it in 3 years, but I felt the itch coming back after 18 months of CIV3.
Hah, you're mine!!!

It´s Krogoth Like NeOmega said.
The best unit for me: CORE/ARM Commander

I liked these ones kind of equally.
Medieval Total War
Scottish Clansmen - 960 screaming scotsmen looked really cool when charging/chasing a peasant rabble.
HOMM3
War Unicorn because they looked so cute.
Diablo2 (this game becomes an RTS when playing a summoner Necromancer)
Etheral Iron Golem - transparent death.

Mighty Gorgons *might* be a powerful unit But I'll take Zealots in the 'cooler' category any day- with their ranged attack, they can blast anything to dust
And they have great blue hoods...
and beautiful images

well, as far as the first unit in a RTS game that really made me smile and say "cool", it was the commando in the original C&C.
The way he could kill any person with one shot from out of range and plant explosives to demolish many buildings in seconds was , well, cool.
I know he doesn't compare to some of the more recent units, but it was the first unit that made me take "cool" notice...

The nameless commando in the first C&C- "I got a present for ya!" Such a cliched amalgamation of every action hero, yet so cool

My zergling dont ATTACK ur siege tanks silly. The siege tanks do. My zerglings are meant to be killed. You cant stop an airdrop with a firebat. You'll need something like marine or etc. Firebat will just be a waste of 50/25 if you play like that.
Even if you tag the marines along, theres always the queen, THE Anti siege tank rush.

If you're going to drop a terran base you need something better than zerglings. Hydras are much more versatile.
