That's the nature of the storms that produce our tornadoes. Moist heat heading north from the gulf meets cooler and dryer air coming down from the north along the Rockies and WHAM! It can be clear all across the state one hour and the next, thunderheads and supercells are literally forming right above your head. We get a smaller tornado season in the fall as summer gives way to winter, but since the northern lands have had all summer to heat up and humidify, the transition isn't so turbulent. I hate tornados, I prefer earthquake country.
