You have two ULTIMATLY HORRIFIC choices.......which do you pick?
Hypothetical: You have 2 horrific choices........
You have two buttons infront of you-you MUST pick one.
If you press one button, one person will go through every type of possible suffering, for eternity(past the destruction of the universe, the heat death of the universe, the half-life on protons, intra-galactic blackhole etc.....whatever ends matter)-eternity i.e. forever. The twist is that this is some person who you hold dear-but you dont know who.
If you press the other button, half the population of the earth instantly and painlessly cease to exist.
If you press neither button, you yourself get the horrible conseqeunces of the first button done to yourself........
What do you do?
Edit: You cant procrastinate, after 24 hours if you dont decide you get the results of button 1 on yourself.

I will push button 1, after making sure it will happen to the thread starter.

button 1... one life's suffering is nothing compared to the evaporation of 3 billion and the great mourning of the surviving 3 billion for the loss of half their loved ones

0 suffering for who?
Half the children of the world will be asking, "Mommy where did my daddy and sister go?"
that's ****ing suffering... you people are all idiots to not realize the full implications of having half the population vanish... thats people's parents, siblings, and friends vanishing...

yes, but their suffering will eventually end. That one person's suffering will never end.

well let's see...
3 billion survivors mourning for let's say 2 years... thats 6 billion years worth of suffering...
true, not eternity... unless you assume eternity ends when the universe ends which might happen within 6 billion years

Well the thread started said the consequences of button 1 would go on past the end of universe, he said the suffering would go on forever(eternity by definition does not end). So you are still comparing infinite suffering to finite suffering.

I would break open the machine and jam its gears with Vesayen's head. Crisis averted. Now it is snack time. My will be done.

Eternal suffering is much worse than simple death.

WHAT THE HELL?
Am I the only one here who would rather have one person suffer than billions... and frankly, just taking away one's life is suffering... imagine all the **** you plan to do in your life and have it just vanish... true you wouldnt know anything cause you'd be dead but still... such loss...
of course if there's an afterlife...

Or I'd ask for official promise that if I push button number 1 that it will happen, making someone give signature, then I'd want to sign it too, asking for another working pen and then quickly putting them into my nose and slamming my head to the table and die right there before pushing any buttons.

If the eternal suffering involved includes being subjected to inane hypothetical moral choices with no real favorable answer, then I say, away go the 3 billion!

I don't understand why my "would you rather have a railroad spike shoved through your left eye or your right" poll was closed, seeing as how Vesayen seems to start a new (equivalent) poll every day. Double standard!
