The Petition Thread
I believe that the "Civilization Games General/Future" forum should be renamed to something like "Civilization Game Development: Ideas and Discussion", and to be seen at the immediate top of the forum (ie, in front of BHG's right now).
this would make the forum more noticable to people in general, more specifically the newer people, who dare not venture below the Civ3 Forum groups.
The flow of ideas is rampant, from many sources, in many different areas. This forum was created to provide a place for all these ideas to be brought forth and examined, discussed, and decided upon. In short, this form would be a real time wish list for the major gaming companies to look at when proposing their next games, or for the indepedent developer to come to and discuss his game.
This forum also deserves it's own Moderator, or at least, to be assigned an official one so that lists of major topics can be topped, etc.
Simply put, this forum can change the future of Civ-like games, if the people can find it easily.
So, I have created this petition. Please post in here if you believe that the actions above should be taken by the owners of Apolyton. If you have any input, go ahead and give it. if you don't but like the idea, just post with your name as the message. If you don't like the idea, please do not post in this thread.
Thank you for taking the time to consider my proposition.

moving it to the top of the forum list is certianly a good idea, I hate having to venture into the civ3 forum to find a discussion about civ4. I don't really see the need for a designated mod though, ming has almighty power over every forum, or you could contact Mark or Dan too.

I'd certainly like to see this forum "up top" too. I'm unconvinced that a name change is really needed. I also don't see any serious need for a moderator at this point.

agreed... as long as it doesn't turn into a "Civ4: Ideas" forum.
IMO it should be more General, less Future Speculation. Discussion of concepts, debates of differing approaches to combat, tile improvements and stuff. Civ4 is ages away, Galciv RoN and Moo3 are current and CtP3 ain't happening - there is no visible future, so reflection on concepts is more worthwhile, to see what ideas we can come up with for improvement in general, whether it fits into a current civ game, will fit into a future one, or neither.
The Post-Apocalyptic Civlike Funbash thread is a good example IMO. Its Civlike in that it uses the same concept, but also utterly different.

if this forum is for future Civ games, I agree it probably should be higher up in the list of forums. Although moving it closer to the Civ3 forum will certainly add a few Civ4 threads from disgruntled Civ3 players.

I don't think renaming it will do much good. If people want to contribute to the betterment of the game they will find the right place to makes comments and suggestions.

civ definetly needs a revolution of new concepts and ideas - which needs good examination, discussion, and rethinking, until it is near perfect. afterall, coders aren't paid to come up with new ideas,
but if we provide really good ones, in complete and specific form, chances of consideration would be greater.
it's not really hard to tell why the civ 3 wishlist wasn't mostly used (they did incorporate a few ideas though)
the approach wasn't all that nifty, posts were overlong, and they tried to fit in people's replies and responses, and suggestions, instead of providing a 'final' and complete draft version of a concept - with no need for credits as to who came up with the idea. (chances are, several many already thought of it, too)
if this forum leads to that,
it is quite a turnoff when the Civ 3 forum has the growing threads of new civ ideas.
so count me in, hereby I sign......

It wont get moved to the top, because Markos just reordered everything and he had some template in mind.
It probably doesn't really need a mod.
General/future seems a good title to me.
Don't want to be a party-pooper, but it doesn't really seem like a well-thought out proposal to me, sorry.

Erm, you can't change peoples mind if they come here for Civ III stuff. Putting the forum at the top won't help, if people simply aren't interested. If someone is interested, they usually find their way there.

I concur with you, Spikey. Markos is apparently following the usual "newest titles first" order, which indeed means that in that model general Civ discussion and future stuff isn't above it, as it's not all about some specific title, plus that's why we have the Other Games and Miscellaneous sections, where this forum fits well.
