They're all computers in Robert Heinlein books. Mike is the computer in "Moon is a Harsh Mistress", and Minerva and Dora are computers in "Time enough for Love". Dora is a spaceship computer... In fact, Dora IS the spaceship. She's my laptop, of course.

Reminds me of an old Onion Point/Counterpoint:

I've never felt the need to name inanimate objects, except my car in college, which I called "b!tch," because it was a b!tch to park.

This one (that I am using to post this reply) is named Omoikane.

If you must inject your vitriolic brand of politics into every single post you make, could you at least make an effort to actually be clever about it? Thanks.

WHO injects politics?

Actually, Bush's dodging of the war is more two-faced than Clinton's, as Clinton was at least consistent with his professed beliefs (he openly opposed the war on moral grounds). Bush was a war supporter and even to this day believes the cause was just (but not necessarily the manner), yet he weaseled out of it, too. So he goes into the Limbaugh/Buchanan/Quayle/Gramm/etc. camp of chickenhawks

My new generation which only now consists of two PCs as Sturmovik and Liberator will be sold now, are named Tereshkova and Gagarin. So yes, my PCs have names as they're on a LAN.
Generation I
Hades and Hermes
Generation II
Tolstoi, Uljanov, Gorkij, Trotskij; printer servers Gogol and Tshehov
Generation III
Tereshkova, Gagarin and printer server Laika.

People really actually DO name their computers? Sheesh. Weirdoes. One and all.
I'm having a hard time grasping people nicknaming other inanimate objects, too. Like penises. (All right, so it's not exactly an inanimate object. Even for Bob Dole anymore.) Although I like Lyndon Johnson's nickname for his. ('Jumbo.')

Sure, my computer is called TOSHI. Some joke between the brand's name and a character's name from ST:Enterprise. My former computer (in fact it is still alive) was called Banelia.
My first computer at work was called Troi. The second Belldandy, and this one has a very ugly name (I am not responsible for it) PFCPRO.
Me printer is Andrea 2 and my car is called Alia 2 (and my former were Andrea 1 and Alia 1 )
