Alpha Centauri TV serie - Wouldn't it be GREAT??
I am the biggest Alpha Centauri fan and I think it would be wonderful!!!
Do you imagine? I've made a list of the seasons:
1- What happens after Unity's launch; the voyage; captain's assasination, the mutiny.
2- Creation of the seven factions' bases.
3- Lindly's story (Deirdre's friend) as presented in the game.
4- Creation of the SMACX factions and arriving of the Aliens.
5- war between the aliens and the struggle of the new leaders for power. Lindly's death. Deirdre talks with Planet.
6- Preparing for someone's trascending and destruction of the aliens.
Etc...
I don't know of actors but I have always compared Deirdre with Enya, the singer, or something like that.
What do you think?

It sounds like an idea, but i would much rather see a SMAC big-screen production!

Sounds interesting; but I think as a TV series SMAC wouldn't last six seasons. Remember what happened to Star Trek: the Next Generation?
Welcome to AC-Fiction, by the way.

Yes, SMAC the television series ala Babylon 5! In my mind that would be more in keeping with SMAC since it had a defined and compelling storyline, and a wonderfully integrated cast of characters and events. In short, it made sense. While I really liked ST:TNG it was essentially a series of 1-hr shows with only minimal continuity. SMAC would require much more than that, and about 100 1-hr episodes might just about do it: from launch to transcendence!
I'm not sure I'd like SMAC-the-Movie. Unless it were something epic like LOTR it would lose something in the translation, and it might get filled with shallow cliches with a thin plot. SMAC would need to be deep, and (as before) B5 sets the standard for me.

I think it is do-able. I'm thinking that they would probably need to go CGI or something.
Good to see another person in the Fiction forum!

Who would you cast for the roles of the faction leaders?

Brad Pitt as Sven? All the more reason to kill him immediately. But then, an eternity for him in the punishment sphere might be nice, too.
Ahhhh. I can hear the screams now...

Franky - I forgot about those photos from the old skool thread! There's definitely a resemblance.

I would prefer a full-blown movie. Series would be too dragged on. I remember trying to watch Enterprise when it started but never finding the time to...
But come on - Gillian Anderson as Sister Miriam!
That guy from Independence Day (you know the scientist that gets killed by the aliens in the research lab?) as Zakharov...
What about Halle Berry for the cybergrrrll Roze?

LOL, bizzarely enough I HAD an index.html a while ago... dunno what happened.
BTW who'd play the aliens? Imagine a slight touch of Doctor Who... (or maybe not  ) Kelly Osbourne? Cher? Anne Widicombe? Jack Nicholson?
I dunno why but I'd have to place Ozzy Osbourne somewhere in the film, give the Ozzy man the full attention he deserves :P Along with perhaps Jessica Alba for Deidre? Anyone?

Halle Berry would Rock as the Cyber Girl. The resemblence is perfect!!!
But Jet Li as Yang? come on! Yang's an old man.
I always dreamed of a n alpha centauri movie, It would be of the hook, what with all the new computer graphics they could do. Although, a tv series might work better, because there is a sh*& load of stuff to cover for just one movie. A series might be able to go into more depth with the different charactures.
So, why doesn't someone get busy and write a script?

Star Trek: the Next Generation.
You could overcome the age difference between Yang and Jet Li with makeup and whatnot.

They could just use the story in the Michael Ely books, I think they would make a really good mini-series on Sci-Fi channel.

Ack! PLEASE DON'T let ELY's books represent SMAC! Book 1 was OK, book 2 was good, but book 3 was so horrible I almost didn't finish the book (very few books fit in this category for me). In my opinion there were many logical flaws, and many areas that seemed to betray the SMAC story line and its characters. Just my opinion...

I really liked Book 2. Even though Chairman Yang gets captured, IMHO M. Ely really captured Yang's essence. I felt the first book was a trial run, the second was top notch, and the third ok. I feel that I just liked the third book because the Hive seemed to be in control at the end.....but sharing Planet with the Believers?!
I'd've 'bustered their monkey a**es right after the singularity gets dropped.

Hey everyone
I like the idea of course, but I dont' think the SMAC idea could be captured in a regular TV series unless it was done like Babylon 5. (already mentioned earier in the thread by Hydro)
I'm afraid though that after the second or third season the story would degenerate a little. It's hard to take a game and turn it into a movie and do it so that it is well recieved by those that have never heard or played the game. Perhaps it can be done someday but until then we will just have to dream...

I would love to see a SMAC TV series, if it were well done. I would really hate to see it turn into something like Andromeda or Mutant X, where it is hampered by cheesy special effects and the like. I don't really see a movie, as there really is just too much material to cram into a couple of hours.

I also think a tv series or movie of Alpha Centauri would be a great idea, but why try to choose between one? It would be possible to make Alpha Centauri into, say, a tv series and a movie trilogy.
What I'm wondering is which faction would be shown as the good faction, or if the narration will bounce to multiple or all the factions.
