Critical Flaw
Guys, there's a fundamental flaw with this PBEM. As was true with "Seeds of Greatness", Imperium Roman was designed for single play, and thus relies heavily on different civ-specific Events files to assist the AI against the human player. In this game you are using the Roman Events, and that will have the following consequences:
1) The Roman player gets freebie units for killing off certain AI units (such as the Samnites). No one else will get this benefit. Although given Rome's inherent disadvantage, this isn't totally a bad thing.
2) At certain times and places, the Events will grant the Carthaginians and Greeks some big powerful armies (Hannibal and Phyrrus) inside Italy. In the hands of the pathetic AI this is annoying but a human player could fatally damage the Romans. Big Barbarian Armies will also attack the Romans from time to time (again via events) - but not anyone else.
3) Other Bennies: Capture of Cities, Awards of Techs, etc. All these events will help/harm only Rome.
It's also worth noting that while everyone else starts off with large empires, Rome begins with a single city. Against the AI this can be overcome - versus humans it may be a fatal handicap. This is one reason why the Greeks almost have to be an an AI civ - otherwise a human controlled player would have a huge advantage in Italy.
The comments about using different Events files for each Human Civ are basically beside the point for several reasons:
1) Once the game starts using one Events file, that file is loaded and saved into the main game file. Thus - for example - even if the Carthaginian player has the carthaginian events in his scenario folder, the game will not use them since it always defaults to the internal events file.
2) Theoretically each player could strip out the events EVERY time it's their turn, but this is pretty cumbersome, and it doesn't address the fact that the existing events files were created with the assumption that all other players are AI controlled - and are thus inherently unbalanced.
3) Even if you decided to use the strip-reload process described above, this still doesn't address all the Events that are TURN-BASED. (For example: If Turn=50, Then Give Unit "X" to Civ "Y") Turn based events happen to the First Player ONLY - and thus would use whichever event file he happened to be using during his turn.
I tailored SoG for PBEM by creating a single event file that gave the important events to everyone, but at least in that scenario play-balance wasn't an issue since every civ starts with a single city. Obviously this is not the case with Imperium Roman, so play balance is a real concern. Soooooo. Much as I LOVE this scenario (and it's definitely one of my all-time faves), I think Imperium Romanum needs quite a bit of work before it's truly ready for PBEM play.

Good idea, but I don't know is he is willing to do that, as he has been "retired" from this forum since some time ago. However, he stills visits the Off-topic forum, so, mabye a PM will be answered.
