I was surprised and happy DanQ made it a newstopic! Great!
Seems things are going great! Let's hope Firaxis / Atari won't let us down.

Hi,

It grates that you guys are working on a new expansion for civilization III ]when you still haven't debugged PTW outside the US yet

I have a major concern / question,
"Can you make sure that this XP has a worldwide copy protection system instead of the regional system Play The World had?"

The only drawback to living in Europe is to have to wait months for your patches, if they even come to Europe, or even if your programmers even know where Europe is.....

Thus, in name of all non-US gamers,
please make the copy protection worldwide!

I enclose a map - the non-blue areas outside the continental USA are all what we know and love as "countries full of people" too.

Nah, I didn't really send that one, though tempted, I will send a variation of your one really!!

Of course, sending this to Firaxis will do no good, (other than annoying people who are already well aware of the problem). You would have to send it to Atari (Infogrames) as the copy protection and non-USA regional distribution is in their hands, not Firaxis.

In addition, Atari calls all the shots for distribution. They own Civ3 and pretty much all the rights to it. Firaxis can't really put much pressure on them. (What are they going to do? Tell Atari, "If you don't do this we won't ever make another Civ game again".)

Send your letters to Atari.

Sending emails to infogrames really hasn't helped in the past. Around april I tried to contact Infogrames in NL, but they didn't exactly advertise their contact info much. So I sent an email on the UK infogrames site using the webform, only to get a reply that I should sent my questions to some address in the Netherlands. I forwarded that email about the same day, haven't heard anything since.

At least the Firaxians can sent all the feedback they get through to their 'account manager' or some such at Atari, without having to deal with the 'tech support' people.

Sent my own message to them from Australia.

Never sure if we get the American copy, European or what?

Not bothered with PTW so far.
Is it worth it?

I have been away from CIV3 for sometime, but thinking of giving it another go.

I didn't got any reply, but the fact that they released the european patches for ptw and they told us that in the future they'll release one worldwide copy-protect-system tells us that they read our questions!

hi ,

huh , what you want , when atari brought in its own people and they found this they asked what amounts of money where put into this , ......

it turns out that the benefits from a local language version are brought to minus ten versus benefits , ......

atari is also the pusher for a full patched gold edition that would combine civ III and ptw , .... ( read the civ3 news section on that )

they also see no use whatsoever in having several different copy protection systems , ....

someone must have hated the 30 second pop-up , ....

have a nice day
