Hmmm - I wonder if the inhabitants of St. Petersburg or Ekaterinburg think that?

Jamskizhik
Jamskibarovsk
Jamski-Novgorod
Jamskizavodsk

they might not think that, but itīs true.
Ekaterinburg is named after "Katherina", a German queen (princess? dutchess? ).
And St. Petersburg after Peter the great, who has visited Germany (and other western european countries) before.
Both cities were founded in the later history of "Czarian Russia", when they got involved with German and Austrian politics. Might have sounded good to the Czars, so they adopted it.
All I say is that it SOUNDS German, as we have:
Hamburg, Wartburg, Wolfsburg, Elgersburg ... It means "castle".
Edit:
Actually I speek only very little Russian, so I donīt know whether it is a native Russian word. But since no city had that kind of name before the 18th century, I bet itīs not Russian at all

Jamskivostok - I think this one's going to win, unless "Jamski's Fun Factory (Nervestapling)" wins

Actually comes from old german bergan - a shelter
(from whence also comes burgh, as in Edinburgh, and the anglicized version, borough or bury as in Peterborough, Marlborough, Canterbury, etc)

Novaya Vevlya (Zemlya) - island famous for certain atmospheric oddities where the sun can be seen while below the horizon and also thermonuclear test site.

Well it looks as though we'll need a poll to decide on the next base names, but not to worry, I'm certain everyone will have 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 bases named after them, it's not as though we'll be lacking in bases.

Sorry, I'm not at liberty to discuss my power sources. I can confirm there is a reason behind the six nipples however.

Any disagreement on those proposed names? If not could we start to use them?
