New Member Application Approvals
Obviously we're going to have to start screening the new people wanting to join, starting with....*Checks the main topic*..."Eli"......so....how should we go about this? Majority vote, just a simply yes/no from the Dean, what?

Whatever system we choose, let's do it speedily. If a majority vote is required, let's post a poll. If that'll take too long, we should consider letting the Dean authorize new members himself. Whatever the system, it should allow new members to join with a fair amount of speed -- or will deter all the new blood who might provide us with fresh ideas and interest.

Hmmm... to be more specific, I think we should basically just let new members in by default, if, over a day or two after they asked to be admitted, there was no real opposition to their being let in.

For now, I'm approved the two people waiting, who've been there for a couple of days, but obviously we'll need to have some sort of proper system for anyone after them. 2 day period for people to voice objections like GT suggested?

Sounds good to me. Perhaps we should set up a thread where everyone introduces themselves - who they are, what their SMAX experience is, what they want to do and accomplish in the game and so forth. Some of us are well known from ACDG1, but there are a lot of new faces as well.

*nod* Two-day waiting period makes sense, and I like moomin's idea.

I agree with both things (2-day period for approval and a thread for the newcomers to tell us about their background).

I agree, but as long as it's not retroactive. I'm too lazy to write about myself.

I dunno... he sports an Aussie flag, so probe his veracity - ask him things only an Ozzy would know; like what ANZAC means or if Memorial Day is a national holiiday in Oz.
Honestly, I can't see why not. Although it's a pity he doesn't seem to SMAX installed.

He has all of one post, complaining about his lack of SMAX in the sign-up thread.

Hmmm... is there any way to check if he's a DL? Unless we get some indication that he is, let him in.

Short of asking Ming to check, no. I guess we could do that.

He seems OK, we should let him in. We can always feed him to the mindworms later in case he tries to fool us.

Welcome, angry! Help yourself to the co-eds. What duties do you want to perform for the benefit of our forward-looking faction?

Hi there. Thanks for accepting my application for tenure
I was on the forums a couple of years ago, but I recently had to create this new profile. Yes, SMAX was not working for some reason but it seems to be okay now - i think its just my CD drive slowly dying on me...
At the moment I'm a few months away from submitting my PhD in Newcastle, Australia - so after working with all these acadmeics i feel that the University Faction is the one for me
I've been a SMAC nut since it came out. How many work hours I lost to it are anyone's guess.. I'm totally new to this whole diplomacy game thing, as you may have guessed by now. I am very interested in taking part, however I can

Great stuff, angry. We really should move ahead with the presentation thread.
What's your field, btw?

Chemical engineering, sensor design - I am hoping/praying to submit the thesis in 2 months from now. How likely that is, nobody can say...

Does anyone know who "Kingsizzle" is? He wanted to join on the 31st, but I haven't seen him post anywhere.

A *veeeeeery* large *bump*...
We have a new member applying to join - he's been around since May, and has made a number of posts in other forums, so I'd say the likelihood of his being a DL is as close to zero as you can get. I recommend that he be approved ASAP.

Well, now it would appear that he wants to think a bit about what faction to join... however, if he does choose to join us after all, I see no reason not to authorise him.
