State control
On a scale from 1 to 10, 1 being total anarchy and 10 being an uber fascist state, what amount of power would the centralized government have in your personalized Ideal State?
Im all for a powerful, but not too powerful centralized government. Id like to have a 5 to regulate foreign relations, trade, defense, and other tasks od administration.

A government should be strong (even very strong) but within a limited, well-defined competence. No option for that in the poll.

I voted 7, even though I don't really know how to interpet it. Let's just say that I think of the US interventionism in economy way insufficient, and I'm not found of juries anyway (the misuses of juries are one root of the ridiculous trials)

I voted 10, but I'm not sure what that's suppose to be. I don't think of myself as a fascist. When I took the test it said I was right in between libertarian and authoritarian.

basically a 7 is moving towards a police state. no trial by jury, and accused peoples' rights are very limited

then 10 probably wasnt the best vote
10 would be something from Fahrenheit 451 or some other Ray bradbury type state. The government is in complete control. no freedom exists for the peons that are the populace.
EDIT: ilk.. i wrote this post in a hurry, lots of typos

Wouldn;t 10 be more like 1984 than farenheit 451? Can you really compare book burnings to Double speak?

book burning was a mere facet of the government control... but yes, 1984 would be another good example

4. The government should be able to enforce the law, and protect the people, and take reasonable measures the improve the economy, but there should be no excessive interference in people's lives.

Ideally I'm with the anarchists here. Realistically, I'm voting 6.

I agree with Azazel... this poll is unfair. There are aspects that the state should control, and others it should not.
Social Behavior Issues: (religion, art, substance usage, sexual behavior, political beliefs, literature, and press) The government's only involvement in these aspects of life should be to maintain the freedom of its citizens to choose how they want to live their lives.
Public Safety Issues: (police, fire, health-care, military) The government's primary concern is to protect its citizens. Thus, these aspects should be in government control.
Economic Issues: I believe in strongly in the Capitalist system. The government should keeps its nose out of business, and business should be out of government. I have very unorthodox theories on how the government should bring in revenue. Income should be taxed less... people shouldn't be penalized for what they produce... I'd like to see government funded more like a non-profit corporation, bringing in revenue for usage and consumption of energy and infrastructural systems. Basically, my economic system would consist of an almost laisze-faire (spelling?) consumer goods market... a self-sufficient, non-profit government controlled energy and transportation sector... and a tax-funded public safety sector. I haven't yet thought up specifics, so please don't ask for any.
Regardless of involvement... government should be democratic and the number of parties not restricted.

I voted a 7 but could go up to an 8 or 9 in times of crises.
(Crises = defending aganist Communist threat, terrorism, times of war, and so on.)
OT question for Azazel - Is that a picture of yourself in your avatar???

Silly poll. Being in favour of a strong govnerment in certain aspects of society does not equal fascism.
