I don't really disagree. If I'm honest I think we should do our best to move towards convergance and then join.
But part of me just wants the cool euro notes and not to have to change money when I go on holiday.

"If I'm honest I think we should do our best to move towards convergance and then join."
Developing countries are converging at a steady rate. There's not much you can do to aid convergence - who is actually going to move from variable to fixed mortgage as a result of wanting to join the Euro? Individuals will take the deal that is best for them at the time.
"But part of me just wants the cool euro notes and not to have to change money when I go on holiday."
Unfortunately this is probably what the British public will end up being convinced by.

I like changing notes before going on holiday it adds to the excitement(not that this is an argument for keeping the pound)

I find it annoying and I don't like paying the charges. Mind you these days I just use my cash card abroad anyway.

Is it true that if we sign this Constitution they're going to put a statue of Napoleon up in Trafalgar Square? I read it in The Sun...

It's true Boddies. Okay, they weren't being entirely serious, but they posted a picture of what Trafalgar Square could look like if the bungling beaurocrats of Brussels get their way, with Napoleon on top of Nelson's column. Because, that's that the European Constitution is really all about.

The local council won't even put a statue of Mandela in in Trafalgar Square, so I laugh in the Sun's general direction.

Yeah, it's great when people attack Paediatrician's houses because of the ignorant rabble raising lies they've read in some jizz rag.

blimey, i leave for one day and this thread explodes.
ok, people have been saying that it would be pointless to have a vote on it because the people don't know enough, is the average person in all the countries that ARE having one much better informed? i hardly think so. the government hasn't exactly been shouting from the rooftops about this one, very little effort has been made to explain it to the public, they're trying to sneak it through without giving the people a chance to have their say, it's completely undemocratic.
mike, the tories got slaughtered when they ran their campaign on the euro for two reasons 1) europe isn't as important to people as many other issues, be it public services, law and order or whatever, 2) people will get a chance to reject the euro in a vote anyway, so what would be the point of voting in a party to do something you can do yourself?

very true, they were never going to win that election anyway, but to do as badly as they did took some real effort

Absolutely. The people should have to vote on Major issues, like declaring war to another country for example
Funny how some people can completely change their point of view...
Back to the subject : Blair is supposed to be more pro-euro than most UK Prime Ministers before him so there's some hope . Anyway, I think UK will become much closer of the EU one day or another, and probably adopt the Euro. Could take some time though
