I have played the ps2 version, for about 10 minutes that is.
My neice objected to people being attacked with baseball bats and then repeatedly hit while on the ground.
At the moment I am playing GTA3 through again. Fun, just captured a Rhino (tank)!!!

The difference on the PC and PS2 is that the PC has mouselook (which already makes it better ) and the ability for high resolutions, making the graphics look much better than the PS2 (TVs only come in 640*480, IIRC).

Well, I'm playing it now. I don't know what Imran is talking about in regards to the save system, when you die during a mission there is a taxi parked outside the hostpital that will take you back to the start of the mission imediately. That's a huge improvement.

The only problem is that you have no weapons when you die, so the taxi is kind of useless.

(GTA3) I normally load if I die or fail during a mission. But then, I'm a perfectionist.

Vice city is small, if they make a GTA4 they need to make it much much much bigger. And as for playing it on a computer, booooring, such a small screen and you cant lay on the couch and play at the same time.
If you need help, like finding an item or completing a mission just ask me. Ive beaten the game thrice. (twice without cheating)

yeah, oddly enough my sister wanted my mom to take gta3 away from me because I was doing drive by's then hopping out grabbing the money and shooting any bystanders.

Well, that is not how the game is supposed to be played. I did that the first time I played, too, and not doing it is ten times as more fun. I usually have about twice the amount of money, too, and weapons are no problem once you get familiar with the city and find the hidden things. (Most missions will supply you with what you need, anyways.0

Bingo... it's annoying to have to go to a Ammo'Nation and then listen to the mission, and THEN go to the place again.
Everytime I get wasted or busted, I just reload.

Easy... get a bigger monitor . And laying on the couch and playing it is over rated. Sitting up is much more immersive. Add to the fact that the PC has BETTER graphics and mouselook and the PC wins.

No where NEAR the same as mouselook. Mouselook is absolutely the best thing for an action game.

Oh, come on! I don't give a damn how the designers want me to play the game! I spent $50 on it, I want to play the game how I want to play the game! Don't give me that BS about this is how they want me to play it. That's fine for them... but I bought it, and I'm playing it. They should cater to ME (the customer).
Really, would you really like it if you went into a Subway and they decided what should be on your sub because that is how a sub is supposed to be eaten? No, so why do it for computer games. That's a bad argument.

I have all 100 packages, have completed every rampage and unique jump, 6 police bribes, health and adrenalin at my hideouts and sold every car that can be sold. I could draw the city map from memory I know it so well. I also have over 7 million dollars, and haven't even finished the Staunton Island missions yet. I have played the game through 3 times (my 4th now) but used hints to complete the game 100% on my 2nd and 3rd goes.
I like finishing the game and seeing I have had no failed missions, no deaths and no jailings.

I'm not telling you how to play it, I'm just telling you not to gripe about save/loading when the game was designed to be played without.
And they can't cater to every single potential customer, by the way.

Yeah, but should try to cater to the vast market. Most PC games have a 'save anytime' feature. The 'save where we say so' is a console hangover. They should know their customer.

i found the violence rather refreshing and realistic... i love how the hookers fight back....
i love wailing on the cops.... i can't compare it to the GTA series as i havent' really played them..
i thought the map was pretty big, but once you learn to play, games like this become rather dull.....after ahwile

Um... I'd recommend 1 Ghz processor, 256 RAM, and a 32 MB VRam Video card, personally.

The bloody remote control helicopter one was worse. I skipped it and did all the other missions. Finally, I was forced to go back to it.

The RC Copter level is very irritating.
The level where you shoot people from the helicoper is far far easier on the PC. Being able to use the mouse instead of the PS2 analog stick makes all the difference.

Yeah, I spent quite some time, with that remote heli, but finally I made it... the other heli mission was easy, did it on first try... almost didn't lose any health...

the RC helicopter mission took me awhile to do, but after I finished it the first time it has been easy ever since (no Im not an infomercial)
on the other helicopter mission for ps2 you can use the d-pad, it makes it far more easy because up is up and down is down.

Does anyone know what a Blista Compact looks like? I assume it it some sort of SUV or mini-van, but I haven't been able to find one yet.

I've got no idea... I have a hard time reading the names of the cars anyway, because of the way they write it...

It's a compact car. 2-door, IIRC.

its about the size of the Manana but the back is sort of curved. the easiest way to figure out which car is named what is to just drive around and steal cars that you dont know the name for, and sort of quiz yourself as you go along naming each car that goes by. Ive gotten to the point where I can go full speed down the road and name every car that goes by, sad I know but Ive spent a couple hundred hours playing it.
a question for those who play it on the computer; Do you ever just get bored of the missions and go on a killing spree? it seems like you dont, youre always complaining about the save system which makes me think youre taking the game a bit too seriously.
and about the save system. Theyre called safe houses because you are a criminal. think about it. If you were a criminal that everyone knew and a lot of people wanted you dead would you just sleep out in the middle of the street?

How is a 'save' related to sleeping in the middle in the street? A save, is just a save... I can go back to it later.

youre supposed to be a member of the mafia, the safe houses are where you "sleep" (save). if you've ever noticed 6 hours (iirc) pass each time you save. its the equivilent of taking a nap. I guess they just made it that way for the console versions, as far as Im concerned though anyone who needs to save in the middle of a mission is a GTA wuss.

Yeah, I did find the Blista eventually. I had a hard time finding it because I was assuming it to be an SUV like in GTA3. And I can name most of the cars after only playing it about 10 hours, by the way.

Not everyone who plays the computer version takes it so seriously.
By the way, the original GTA3 didn't even have a load game option. The game was designed with save/load in mind - but to make it uneccisary.
Geting ammo is not hard, just kill someone with a gun, steal a squad car, or pick up a hidden weapon on your way back to the mission - or during it. You can also skip the movies.

Fine let me be a GTA wuss . Rather be that than have to keep my computer on the pause screen for hours because I have to go do something in the middle of a mission .
