A New Time Counter
EDIT: The New Time Counter!
Is there any support for setting up a new turn time counter similar to Borc's Counter (which is no longer maintained)?
The game has slowed down considerably ever since Borc stopped updating the time counter, and I think that by returning it, we can speed up the game, if even slightly.
As before, it will not have any official status, it'll only be there to advise teams on whether they are being slower than other teams and need to play their turns faster, and give an overall picture of the pace of the game.
I'm willing to maintain it and make updates at least once per turn cycle.

As long as the starting point is where Borc stopped counting.

I thought the game slowed down when GS went to war.
Seriously though...I remember Borc asking for volunteers to maintain his counter. Check with him...

Eli: it's not a contest. As I said, a turn time counter is meant solely to advise the teams as to how fast they're playing compared to other teams and provide an overview of how fast (or rather, slow) the entire game is going.

I think this is a good idea.
And I don't think Eli's comment was meant that it was a contest. But the idea of tracking the time was to raise awareness. And the concept was that some turns would take longer than others. I suspect Vox is one of the teams that is playing a bit slower now, but we were clearly well ahead on time when we stopped keeping track. I think Eli's suggestion is that we 'banked' a lot of time earlier in the game, when turns could be played quickly. We should not lose our 'savings account', so to speak.

The point is to measure the period that turns take now, because we want to deal with the present problems. If we let teams open "savings accounts" they wouldn't be so quick to solve any new problems should they arise, since they have time on the counter to burn through.
This is why I'm proposing that the counter would only display the time it took each team to play its last turn and the time elapsed over the last 20 turns. I don't want this to be a system where you start from 100 hours and get +4 hours each new turn, because such a setup implies "stay above X hours or you'll get sanctioned".
If anyone blames you for being slow now, just remind him that you were the fastest team for most of the game and link to the original timecounter.

Ah - OK - understood. I like your proposed approach. Since there never was any real punishment for using up the 100 hours anyway, why not just count the hours used. Sounds good.

I am going to activate the counter, starting from the next turn. I'll set up a thread after it is over which will always display the numbers shown on the counter and explain the concepts behind it (mostly repeating things that I have said in this thread).
That thread will also be used for posting questions and suggestions and making clarifications of cases within the gray-area.
Anybody minds?

Anyway, I'm starting my count from this turn. When it's over, I'll present the stats in the first post of this thread.
Maybe if someone would be nice enough to give me some popups-free webspace, I'll have a nice eye-candy page like Borc's old counter. *hint*hint*

AHA!
It's finally done. Let me know what you think!
The New Time Counter!
I'd like feedback regarding the design, the usability, etc'. I also need webspace - I can't use that server forever. I don't think they even know that I'm using it. (long story, don't ask...)

Shiber - it is suberb!
Question - is there any concept of the old 'green' hours incorporated. Or is the approach simply that everybody has similar RL constraints - which makes sense to me.
Also - thank you, thank you, thank you for starting on Vox's quickest turn in the last month.
Speaking of which - the other teams' patience with some of our longer moves over the last while is appreciated. Mostr have been in-game related, some have been out-of-game (ie player unavailability).
Again Shiber - great job. And much needed. Love the background. One suggestion - make the V3 at the top the same colour as the CI, or vive-versa. At first glance I was wondering what a V3 counter was. I thought it was the third version.
Thanks again!

Thanks Beta!
Green hours: no. I'm expecting teams to have more than one player and try to disperse them over different time zones. If a team has only one player and therefore the game can be delayed by hours for nothing while that player is sleeping or at work, that team is responsible.
V3: I know, and I agree... but I tried to imitate the original logo of Chrono Trigger as much as possible. In Chrono Trigger, the big clock/C was the C in Chrono and the H was covered by the same texture as the C, and the rest of the text was dark purple. I cut the side of the H to make it into an I and added V3... but I suppose you're right, it's not clear enough this way. I'll see what I can do.

Okay, how about it now?
I gave up sticking with the original for readability.
Now it says PTW:DG Counter. I removed the original I, and the half-clock is no longer a C.

I've made a few changes to the page.
RP's icon now has a transparent background instead of a white one, and blends with the rest of the page.
Also, I used layers to add an animated racing counter to the logo. What do you think, is this an improvement or not?
