Do you play with accelerated production?
I don’t know which I like better. I like building units fast, but I don’t like my cities running out of things to do.

Tried it once. I think I was playing a DEBUG game to test some editor mods. I have no need to play Acc Prod, since I have no problem with my large-map games lasting a few weeks.

I will be the first to say this:
In MP i use accelerated production.
In SP I never use Accelerated Production. I know when I start a single player game of Civ3 this game will last several hours.
See ya

I can relate to what everyone is saying here. I played with it in multiplayer, and I see the advantage there because the length of everyones playing time is much shorter, and you are almost never going to get everyone to come back at the same time. But in single player, I agree, it doesn't feel right. Too fast.

I never use AP. Not in single games, not in MP. I don't like it at all. But then, I only play PBEM, so maybe for a fast MP I'd use it.

I like accelerated production in SP. I like having both my civ and the AI acquire techs quicker, but that's just my opinion.

I'm not exactlty sure why most people do not play with AP on. Perhaps they consider it a cheat. I have played with AP since it was introduced in 1.29f and I absolutely love it! The AP is not a cheat, in fact if anything it benefits the AI the most. With AP on it is nearly impossible to maintain any thing more than a 2-3 tech lead (unless you have a HUGE lead from the ancient era, but they will eventually make a comeback). The reason for this is simple; with AP the difference in production between the player and AI will be less pronounced and reduces the Ai's bad city placement and worker tasks. Of course in high levels this may be a cheat for the player (I am not sure, haven't played past Monarch) as it could lessen the relative power of the AI's bonuses it recieves.

Wow, I'm glad I started reading this thread. Until I did, I assumed AP was like the old "Advanced Start" which gave you, what?, 3 or 4 cities already settled and some things developed. Didn't like that. But reading this thread I realised I might be missing something. So I started a game. I'm not far along but I think I like what I see so far. I spend roughly 18 hours on my games (the last was 24 but I was going for a domination victory -- and missed to a space ship launched by the Romans).
Anyway, looks very very interesting.

I've never tried it, except a few turns to see what it was. I like games that take 20 - 40 hours.

Never tried and don't intend to. Maybe I should use it in hotseat games, but even then I prefer the 'pure' feeling of slowly building a huge empire. I've never liked features like this in other games too.

Always use it in MP, games just seem to drag on forever without it.
In SP I usually play without it. I'll sometimes uses it on a small map when I want to play a a game in one evening. It's different, amazing how much faster the available land disappears.

Perhaps my family would like if I swithed to accelerated production? And my boss would on longer complain about me yawning at meetings.

I tried to do that once, but after a few months I quickly got burned out!
I tried to copy and paste myself, but that was pretty messy!

Don't ASSUME and make an ASS out of U and ME.
I like accelerated production because when the AI often is too slow to acquire more techs. With Accelerated Production, the AI can at least catch up.

I like X-Cel production in MP, not so much in single player though. Too much of a purist.
