Par on the 5th hole...
She's had birdie putts on every hole so far.

Can someone explain to me why this is such a big deal? The only thing she is competing against is the course and herself.

Right on both counts
Hey Ming, to keep it interesting from a comparative standpoint. Also list what's leading the tournament. Granted all the good players haven't teed off, but it would still be interesting.
And save me from keep checking pga.com.

On MSNBC the poll question is "Should women be playing with the men?"
Put like that who can argue?

Polling is only as good as the people coming up with the questions. In this case... bad...

The leaders are Billy Andrade and Olin Browne at 3 under... with both having played more holes than Annika.

The great thing about her playing is that perfectly innoccuous statements about holes and woods suddenly become hillarious.

She missed another birdie putt... 1 under through 6, still 2 off the lead.
She hasn't missed a fairway yet, and has had birdie attempts on every hole. She is starting to look more relaxed.

On the Par 3 16th hole (she started on the back nine), she hit it really good. Closest to the hole so far (great bounce)... but missed the putt.
Still one under through seven and 2 back.

Looks like she should train her putting a bit then..
Btw dinodoc, she's competing for the money man... $$$! And of course, the advertisement she gets will earn her a nice juicy contract from her sponsors!!

Another Par on the 17th hole. Left herself a long birdie, and she almost go it. She's starting to get into it now... no longer looking nervous. She actually looked pissed that she missed the putt... now that's more like her.
Still 2 back.

It's massive, it's dominated the sports coverage entirely for the past weeks. Something like 95% of the population support her, and in a big way too. It's also shown on national TV, but since I'm in england I'm following it through a webcast on massive (biggest site in Scandinavia) Swedish newspaper portal Aftonbladet.se.

But still, only 2 back.

Because having a woman play PGA golf ruins the very symbolism of golf. You know, clubs and balls and holes, symbolism! Women shouldn't be advancing on holes, putting it in and handling their balls. That's why guys like Vijay have protested it so strongly, it's all about symbolism! Other facors, like she stealing others' valuable TV time and the shame of losing to a woman are nothing compared to the damage a woman can do to the symbolism of golf!

Through 10... missed ANOTHER birdie putt... still one under, and she is starting to get really pissed that she can't make the putts. Still 2 back.

No... as I have stated in other threads, her putting is the strong part of her game.
Two more holes, two more missed birdies... still one under and 3 back. Tied for 17th.
And she is REALLY starting to look pissed with every missed put. Most of them have been short of the hole.

One more hole... one more birdie putt short...
She then missed her first fairway, but has a great lie and look at the green.

Considering all the critics thought the problem would be tee to green due to the length of the course, it's funny that the reverse has happened.

Thanks for the updates ming-- Par sounds decent but how has this course played in the past? Are there not courses where par falls far short of the cut?
More generally I see no problem with her being in this tournament but I hope that sponsors/organizers for a whole bunch of tournaments don't offer her exemption after exemption such that she effectively becomes a "regular'. IMHO, if she wants to do that, she should go through Q school or whatever other standard methods players use to get on the tour.

So far, it does seem like she is handling the distances. In fairness to the critics, however, it was pretty logical to assume that a woman would likely have difficulty hitting as far as the men.
Question here-- Lets assume she does well enough to be around the cut--- Lets assume she choses to play regularly on the men's tour. Then assume that she makes the tour and can regularly finish in the middle of the pack, making some cuts and missing others but never cracking the top 20 in any event. What kind of income would those types of results garner? She might not care if her endorsement income skyrockets but I'm assuming that it would be quite a drop from her current LPGA winnings.
Also, this stunt has garnered a lot of attentionbut do you think the attention would continue if she played more regularly on the tour with middling results?
