The gnoosic game
Okay, let's try something new.
At http://www.gnoosic.com/ is a site where you feed in three bands you like and based on those it suggests nine bands you might like, based on previous suggestions by users and suchlike. So, I punch in three bands I like and, based on the bands I get, your job is to tell me the bands I fed in. None of the bands I gave is unknown on the fan-club-of-three-people-and-a-dog-in-Idaho level, but none of them's sold on the Nirvana level, either.
So, I give you:
The Strokes
The White Stripes
The Hives
A Perfect Circle
Cocteau Twins
Placebo
Breeders
Belle & Sebastian
Dead Can Dance
And you tell me the three bands I fed in to get those results. To make it a bit easier, I'll tell everyone how many bands they got correct. Not which bands, of course, no point in making it too easy. And the first person to get all three right gets to feed in three of his favorite bands and the routine starts again! Hooray!

I won't know yours.
Eric Clapton, Fleetwood Mac, and Moody Blues yielded
Carly Simon , Stevie Nicks (duh) , Pretenders , Sue Foley (I didn't recognize, today), Paul Young (ditto), 883 (ditto ditto), Jim Croce , John Denver (uhhh, no), America (yeah, I guess so), Cat Stevens , James Taylor .
The majority listed, I liked.
A few I didn't recognize, I'll check out.
Cool link, Stefu.

When you click on one of three links at the bottom (I like it/don't like it/don't know it) you'll get another suggestion.
Edit: oh, and I tried several combinations of bands. Most I either knew and liked, or didn't know (well, maybe knew the name, but not the music)...
Anyone heard of Autopulver?

For the life of me, I can't find a third band.
(I'm pretty sure The Pixies and Pavement are the right ones, though)

The three I input were:

I didn't make that up, I like all three, but it put a helluva lotta weight on Alabama.

Whoo, I've just won the Gnoosic game. Entering Rammstein, Joan Jett, and The Distillers gives you no hits at all. My tastes are ubereclectic.
Edit: Strangely enough, Rammstein/Nirvana/Pearl Jam and Rammstein/Smashing Pumpkins/Nine Inch Nails do not give you any hits either. How did it get such a good handle on power metal and such a lousy handle on the more mainstream stuff?

They do give hits, but if you press your browser's back button rather than reload the page, Gnoosic will continue the suggestions of the previous "round" (which will be none if you go to the end of the cycle).

You know, I've entered Rammstein, Matmatah (French rock) and Saint Germain, and I only got an answer related to Saint Germain.
They must not know Rammstein enough I think
