Yeah pretty much. Civ3 was always based around SP.........and even though MP came later they didn't change the things they would need to to make MP work.

My mate - a t'rrific Civ 2 player - claims Civ 3 improved with something called "Play The World". He's urging me to try it. I've avoided Civ 3 like the plague - or even SARS - after the wholesale bagging it got. What is "Play The World"? Does he have a point?
I should point out that he hated Civ 3 when it came out. He has now decided that it's a good game if you accept that you can never win.

You should get this friend playing with us. Who needs civ 3 when we have the parrot?
Rise of Nations is getting some rave reviews, including from some credible people.

He started a couple of games a few years ago, before you arrived on the scene. He's the lead singer with Machinegun Fellatio - that's a band, not something to which Peter Hollingworth turned a blind eye, although he would've if he could've - and spends months on tour so he can't commit to games. Pity. He's a very good player. Introduced me to Civ all those years ago.

i am sure he paid for it
|
I paid for Civ2 and for Conflicts in Civilisation.
Apolyton insisted on a conversion to MGE so I had to find MGE quickly, using a site and a patch that will remain nameless.
However, could we not take some of this discussion elsewhere?
I see 35 responses, and how many help?
All the no-limits patch does is prevent rollover when you get to 32K gold, and a few other bells and whistles.
Has anyone experienced conflicts between the no-limits patch and older versions of civ?

I don't know what the no limits patch is, but I lost my original civ mge disk so installed my original version of civ onto my new computer and used the conversion files i found at civfanatics to convert it to multiplayer gold. works perfectly.

Finbar: PTW is the expansion for Civ3, and MP was not available before it was released. I don't think the MP will ever be popular or that playable, but for a SP kickabout Civ3 is not as bad as some claim. The AI got a few tweaks for PTW so that it plays better than in the earlier versions.
It's down to time I think. Don't let it cut into your Civ2 time, but if you have more time Civ3 with PTW is worth a look IMO.

I wont be getting Conquests...............but if you already have Civ3 then play a few games to get your money's worth. By no means does it have the longevity of Civ2, but much of the bashing was due to disappointment - there are many worse TBS games out there.

Just install civ twice on your machine, keep the first SP version and install a new original version, upgrade this one with the patches and you'll have both.
To play MP you need to play with the same patches I think.

Yes, everyone has to be the same. I have heard of rare occasions where all the players weren't synced and it worked for awhile, but some say those are urban legends.
