Dutch Apolyton Summer Meet?
Zop and I briefly hinted on this in a thread in the Community forum, but we would really like to organize a Dutch Apolyton meeting sometime this summer.
This way we could celebrate our victories in the football prediction poules, but that should be more of an excuse than an actual theme, if you ask me: we (or at least I) would like to have as many people as possible to show up!
So, who's up for it? And any ideas on location/event? And of course, when are you available?
Zop mentioned 2 ideas for location: a theme park and Amsterdam Tournament (friendly football tournament between Ajax, Inter, Galatasaray and Liverpool on 1 and 3 August). I'm open to both, but I'd like to hear other suggestions as well. For one thing, I would also like to suggest Amsterdam itself: a fun place to be and always something to do...
As for dates, I'm available the entire month of July and the first 2 weeks of August (I have some re-exams in the 2nd half of August; it might be possible to arrange something then on specific days, but I'd really rather not).
(Sorry for the delay, Zop, I was a bit busy when I said I'd post the thread and forgot about it later)
Edit: (August 12) The Meet will be held in Amsterdam on September 6. Exact time and place TBD.

I work in July. I'm probably going to request fourteen nightshifts and some evening shifts, which makes it an utterly useless month to go do something.
However, I'm free in August.
As far as the ideas are concerned. I can arrange discounts for the Amsterdam Tournament (don't know exactly how much) and for Six Flags (6 euro discount per ticket).
In both cases, I'll need to order tickets in advance, which would require me to ask for payment in advance from people who want to come.

Locutus made me post here...
I might be interested, but I'm pretty broke, so it would also kind of depend on how expensive those things would actually be.
But... just wondering... would there be any interest in Lowlands (last weekend of August)?

So I did
I'm not really a concert-visitor myself, but if others are interested... but first I'll need to check my exam schedule, I'll see if I can do that tomorrow.

Alva: Excellent idea Everyone who wants to come is welcome. The 'Dutch' part only means that it'll (probably) take place in the Netherlands, it doesn't say anything about the nationality of the participants...
Bas: a pity

Alright, these are the interested:
Locutus
Paul
Zopperoni
(Mercator)
(Alva?)
Any others interested? Hueij, CapTVK, Lemmy, Colon, others???
If you're interested, can you state which period (beginning July, end of August etc.) or days (during the week, in the weekend) would suit you best?
As for ideas, the three suggestions so far are:
- Six Flags, Flevoland; can be visited on any day. Tickets cost 23 euro, but I can arrange 6 euro discount through my employer.
- Amsterdam Tournament, Amsterdam Arena; is held on Friday, August 1st and Sunday, August 3rd. I don't know the price of the the tickets, but again, I can arrange a discount.
- Lowlands, Flevoland; is held on August 29th through 31st. That's all I really know about it.
Summary:
BUMP!

Dutch if there are only Dutch and Belgians, English otherwise.
In principle I'm probably available any time, but then I'm not sure if I'll be coming in the first place.

Belgium is divided into a part that speaks Dutch (in the form of the dialect Flemish) and a part that speaks French (and a very small part that speaks German).

Sorry I haven't seen thread earlier. You should have posted this at Apolyton community.
For personal reasons I've chosen to completely ignore all discussions on Apolyton OT. (The only reason I'm here posting is because Fantagraphics, the comics publisher, is in serious trouble.)
The level of personal self indulgence, perceived self importance, flippancy, arrogance and ignorance (either blatantly feigned or shockingly real) is now starting to reach Newsmax levels. Maybe it would be palpable if some wit was used but even that is in short supply these days.
As for a Dutch Poly meet, could be. I'm not sure at the moment though. I'm also planning another FUADEC in London this time. Which will sap even more time then last year.

Not really, but I do believe all the prominent ones are
I considered PMing all prominent Dutch Apolytoners and pointing them here, so people like CapTVK (and there's a lot of those) will see this thread as well. But doing so will probably take some time and I'm rather busy with uni at the moment. Hopefully I'll have time for this next week... (unless someone beats me to it, of course )

Whoa, you go on vacation for just one week and people come up with this
I'd like to meet you all, but not when it's related to some event, be it a football tournament, the HCC thing or whatever.
Mercator, I'm going to Lowlands too, I'll buy you beer
Seriously, let's pick a day in July or August and a bar in Amsterdam and just do it. With our Belgian friends (not the Vlamms Blok guy though, I want to have fun, not picking a fight).

Maybe, but I stepped into this Antwerp cafe once... And I read his posts on foreigners (read non-white people living in Flanders.) I'm just hoping the Ijzer bedevaart is during the same weekend as Lowlands, it'll save me some trouble

PH, I have a couch with your name on it
And IW, don't worry, we all speak English with an endearing accent... Though we probably will be speaking Dutch just to piss you off

As the crow flies, Amsterdam isn't much further than London for me...and I live in a major ferry terminal that serves Rotterdam (well not in the ferry terminal itself - you know what I mean )
