Trying to bring this back on topic ...
I just found out something else I didn't know (apparently there is still more about this game I didn't know then what I do)
I had previously thought that any time you moved a trireme away from the shoreline that there was a chance you would lose it (too far from shore). I only just realized that you can move it away from shore, it just has to move back to shore before the end of the turn (I guess so it doesn't spend that 50 years between turns floating in the ocean )
Again, I should have known about this long ago , and can't guess how many times I have had my triremes hug the coast needlessly. On a map with many islands it makes early exploration very difficult (or very chancy, if you want to risk your triremes).
/me the slow

Yes, that is reading the rules carelessly, but we all have a story like that. There is a way to keep them from sinking using the end turn command on the tool line, but it's considered a cheat.

but are there really? I would think the type of person who cheats would have got tired of civ mp years ago. its a very old game now and only the die hards are left. I can't imagine that there are many, if any cheaters still playing. Especially amongst the main groups of Apolyton/germans/civmad etc.

I wouldn't rule out finding out some long established player has always cheated. That would be quite a find though.

Yes, seeing how you open, (which is completely different then I do) helps me make more sense of things in our games. You always assume that players of competitive skill level are doing reasonably the same as you are. Boy, was I wrong about that.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I don't associate best/right with either style. I was just so much more surprised than anything else. We were so different. But know things make a bit more sense. I now know why they didn't in the past.

Call me anal but I used to look over every player every game...........every 5 turns or so though, not every turn, because the point was not to catch cheats. I always like to see how the game played out from all perspectives.
I would be staggered if any of the established players here turned out to be cheats.

When we first started playing, I'd look at others strats, but now we play so many games, that I don't have the time to do the reviews I used too. To do a proper review almost takes as long as playing the darn game. I'd rather be playing.
