It has been down for quite sometime today (at least over 6 hours), so I assume there has been some larger scale problems again.

Well... it said it was a Data Base problem, and I tend to believe that since the server was still providing email service.

Maybe the server is just sad 'cause Mark is away
well, I hope settler II become more stable in the future.

'tis a bad omen. The moment The Great One is absent, things take a turn to the worse. I say we petition the Greek military to relieve Him of His duties - clearly He'll do a greater service to everyone by making sure Apolyton is up and running.

I assume it's Markos as before (well, Dan too, I bet), because he did say he will time for Poly every now and then (read the full message by Markos, he didn't say he's gone one year all the time, rather he's just very absent).

Yeah, I have always wondered where they got that "14 minutes and 46 second" business from. Sounds so hokey.

what would happen if Poly ceased to exist?
Where would we go? How would we survive?
But seriously I don't like other forums. Their moderators IP ban you for anything. I have yet to find a another decent forum as this one.

hi ,
well one thing to avoid this is to buy more poly products and follow from time to time a pop-up or two , ...
mydivebook is actually intresting ( for divers )
as long as we support poly in that way and the owners dont have to put a lot of money in it then poly shall be around , .....
lets make poly a landmark in the internet history
have a nice day

panag, you show great initiative, and as such I'm clicking every ad that goes outside of Poly on this page.
Which is one.
How much do our advertisers pay per clickthru, or is that exactly "disclosable"?
Also, howcumzit that Poly is down more often than other sites? Especially considering RackSpace's "99.9% Uptime" claims...maybe we could get some money out of suing them

You know how many times I've seen anyone getting banned from any internet forum? Maybe three times.

I also noticed the "we will be back..." thing. I stood there, clicking "reload" from time to time in order to see if it was true... poor me.

More often than not, when you have and continue to see the "database is offline" message when visiting the site it means that a back-up of site content is being made. As such, site services are temporarily suspended in order to allow the process to complete.
This was the case at the time in question. I will most likely be changing the content of the said message to avoid or at least minimize some of the understandable confusion imparted here in the future.

If Poly would cease to exist, it wouldn't be that much of a problem. I myself would just be active elsewhere instead and most others would find other places to go.

Poly's one of only three sites I go to regularly. If it got shut down the internet would be a very boring place for me.

Well then, your experience is radically different from mine. I've been to sites where they would ban you if you posted in the wrong place more than once. The mods here take a lot more cra-er, are much more patient than what I've seen elsewhere.

...and then it was the site, where I posted lots of stuff that should have gotten me banned... but I never got...
It was a very large and well-liked forum and still is... but there where about 2-3 months where everything went to hell for them (Lack of money)... they're doing better now
