Last Voyage of the Constellation
http://www.news.navy.mil/search/disp...?story_id=7687
http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/u...1m2connie.html
America's Flagship, the Constellation returned today after a 7 month deployment. I over at Point Loma this morning watching her pull in. This was the last Deployment for the Connie, which is set to be decommed this fall. Since our Illustrious Commander-in-Chief is naming the next CVN George Herbert Walker Bush ( ), we'll be without a Constellation for awhile.
Also returning are the Crusiers Bunker Hill, and Valley Forge, the DDG Mileus, and the Frigate Thach. The Bunker Hill is my ship, and after I broke my leg I had to sit it's deployment out when it left in January to join the Connie.

Who would want to sail on the CVN GHWB?
Is there a list of presidents now? We had the Ronald Reagan, so we get the Bush 1? Is the next CVN then the William Clinton? (the party ship of the navy )

That's true. No-one in their right mind would want to piss with HMS Invincible or HMS Brilliant going by name alone.

Can't, that would be a lie.
I was hoping it would be named Ranger, or Saratoga, or Reprisal but Dubya wanted to name it for dear old Dad.

Ah!!! So now that explains why the USS Enterprise was Constitution class on Star Trek. Just proves TOS was part of cold war propaganda, a kind of imperialist dogma.
God I'm paranoid

I prefer the old days, when carriers where named for famous revolutionary battles. Naming ships after presidents is just wrong. Naming it after Bush is even worse. A one term-loser. No ship should be named after a one-term pres, unless he died in office.

I think the Reasoning behind it was that he was a Naval Aviator in WW2.
I think Lexington is a good name for a new Carrier.

Why not states? I know it used to be for Battleships, but it was fine. We could have the USS Utah...Well, OK, not Utah, but other state names were cool.
Or animals..I mean, USS Lion? We had the Wasp once, that was a good name.

I think us Canadians have the market cornered on horrible ship names...
What could strike more fear into the hearts of the enemy than... the HMCS Corner Brook!
Watch out for the HMCS Glace Bay!
Look out! The HMCS Ville de Quebec is on the horizon!
The only names that we have that approach anything resembling cool are the Preserver and le Protecteur, and they're just oil replenishment ships!

Bush gets to name it after his dad? (Gah! Yet another reason we'd be better off if Gore had won).
