Little Icons on Forum Page
Can anyone explain to me what the little icons in front of the threads in the Forums mean? There seem to be: - An arrow
- A question mark
- An exclamation mark
- A dotted envelope
- An envelope
- A red envelope with a letter in it
- A cross (probably for a poll)
- A smiley
- Something that looks like a shopping list
Thanks in advance!

Arrow is a moved thread...
A dotted envelope is a thread you've posted in...
An envelope is a thread that hasn't been posted in for a while...
A red envelope is a thread that has recently been posted in...
not sure about the others...

I think....
arrow = moved thread
yellow envelope = a thread with no new posts since you last visited.
yellow envelope with dot = a thread you've posted in, but that hasn't had any new posts since you last visited.
red envelope = a thread with new posts.
red envelope with dot = a thread you've posted in with new posts.
all of the blue icons = entirely optional and picked by the thread starter. They work pretty much like emoticons, you have to decide for yourself what they mean.

Although the red/yellow envelope distinction does not always work, particularly if you use the forum jump feature often. But it is a good indicator.

The envelopes are marked thread indicators. The blue icons are Thread Icons, picked by the thread starter. Here, they're quite useless. But on a forum like Something Awful, they are much more useful since the default ones have been replaced by wider tags that are used to mark the contents of the thread: "Computers" "Politics" "Games" "Cars" etc.
There's about 20-30 of these icons there.

Maybe they should drop those smilies... I've never even looked at them (except when I started this thread).

Sometimes they can show what kind of thread it is.............but for the most part they admittedly get little use.
