Soviet Steel - WORLD WAR III For Real!
DIPLOMACY IS AT AN END! THE TIME FOR TALK IS OVER! NOW IS THE TIME FOR TRENCHANT STEEL, AND THE MASSED THRONG OF BATTLE!
SOVIET STEEL - NOW READY FOR DOWNLOAD!
Finally!
Here is the scenario I have worked on for a few months!
I am happy to present SOVIET STEEL.
Howdy, chaps.
Keep in mind that this is a hypothetical WW3 scenario.
Synopsis:
After the successful assassination of Hitler in July 1944, Germany was flung into revolution headed by the Army to break the power of the SS.
The rebellious General Corps, led by Erwin Rommel of the German Panzerwaffe, took control of Berlin and called for an immediate surrender.
Germany was put under swift Allied protection by the UK and USA, among other powers. Being excluded from the deal, the USSR was immediately belligerent.
A furious Stalin felt cheated by the Western Allies. Secretly, he planned vengeance and to finish the work of the Soviet Revolution.
This entailed domination of the European continent under the baleful 'Communist Democratic peace'...War against the Allied powers...
Hence, why Germany and neighbouring Poland have became the focus of a massive military build-up between the two power blocs...
Incidents of note from 1944 to 1950...
1944: German capitulation and formal armistice with Allies.
1945: Russian and Allied fortifications spring up across Polish/German border.
1946: The disbanded Wehrmacht was reformed as the much-reduced and democratically-oathed Landswehr,
1946: The guilty parties and nazis were dealt with by the noose, the SS and other villians being arrested or vanishing.
1947: Rommel joined the other leaders in Europe in turning Germany into a vast bulwark against the growing hostility of the USSR and Stalin.
1947: The USA has pledged to go to war in defence of Europe's liberty, the UK and other European powers have agreed to defend too.
1947: The state of Israel was formed and immediately was under pressure from hostile neighbours...
1948: The Nations of Europe are banded together in an alliance of mutual defence, headed and in many cases supplied by the USA.
1948: German weaponry and cooperation to share it has led to some breakthroughs in Allied war technology.
1948: With allied production assistance, the Germans are maintaining their reputation for armoured excellence. In Allied service.
1948: Most other world nations are trying to profit out of the post-war world...
1948: The Soviets have been sliding to a war footing in the last year, Stalin becoming ever more baleful and threatening in his diatribe.
1948: Many believe the USSR is merely sabre-rattling, others think Stalin has his eyes on Western Europe.
1949: The state of Russian military preparedness is known to be formidable. Worldwide concern at Stlain's intentions.
1949: The communications between East and West have diminished to a standstill in the last few weeks of 1949.
1950: In the US and Europe, Russian Diplomats return to the USSR...
1950: Stalin Makes pledge to assure Russian hegemony, Now the world is again on the brink of war...

There are currently no troops in Stanley. This allows a WARPAC landing to be made immediately in the event of war, which is almost always. I wouldn't care, but when Stanley is taken, I (Europe) immediately lose all my money.

The main game file has been updated to fix the CIV2 gunpowder bug, and to make the USSR more aggressive.
About port Stanley, well build a unit in it!

I put them there to make it hard for the enemy to conquer these crucial cities.
BTW
can someone try and DL the files and see if they extract OK?
I think the server is belly-up.
I am getting a blank zip file...

I downloaded the beta earlier and I'm wondering (maybe you changed this in this version) why Hong Kong and Formosa are not Chinese. If I recall correclty, Chiang was promised to be given those territories in the Teheran Conference in 1942. Also, China seems to have no tank or air units of her own, which in some ways defeats the purpose of a Chinese civ since their units are all standard IMHO. I guess I'll download the new version and see! BTW, it's a great scenario.

The beta is a goner, dude!
The full version of the scenario on this thread solves China's tank troubles...
To get aircraft, you must look to 'military upgrade' techs...

What about Hong Kong and Formosa? I recall reading that Roosevelt wrote to Stalin about how he hated the British imperialism in Hong Kong during the Yalta conference.

You do realise that this is set in an alternate timeline?
The war ended more or less in Jun 1944.
As such, certain events did not happen.
Soviet Russia was not a friend of the Allies after this point.
There were no summits or conferences...

Curt, Australia really shouldn't be neutral: We should be included as part of the US or Europeans. (I'd go with the US). There was no way that Australia would stay out of WW3.
On other Australian related stuff, the population of Canberra is way too big - Canberra didn't have more then 50,000 people in 1949 (Sydney and Melbourne each had over a million residents). Also, Papua New Guniea was under Australian rule from the end of WW2 and not British rule as you've depicted it as.

Well, in the scenario's situation, the neutrals (hence Australians too) will have their hands full.
This may change in some future update, but as it is, USA and NATO are quite powerful enough.
Handing them the south pacific would tip the balance.
Neutral cities are there for the taking.
You want Australia? Get your tanks out!
I am working on a new project now.
So any city name changes or other things,
feel free to customise the scn file to your own needs.

@Case,
To be truthful, I would love to make Australia a seperate civ!
If there was a way to activate that extra civ (arabs,incas) I would make Oz playable!

And is it possible to negotiate with the AI? It is somewhat frustrating to not be able to tell other civs to remove their troops from my territory.

Sure!
This Scenario is PBEMable by the simple operation of removiing the NEGOTIATION mask from the events.
This bit:
@IF
NEGOTIATION
talker=anybody
talkertype=HumanOrComputer
listener=anybody
listenertype=HumanOrComputer
@THEN
In SP it is not wise to have this removed as civs will break alliances, go to war and demand techs they should not have!
Imagine the USA demanding your MIG15 tech!

Errr.... Curt, why is my name on the credits list?
I didn't actually help with anything.I didn't even download the playtest version as University lessons extracted a heavy toll on my free time.
I know you meant well, but i find it rather unfair for the people that actually helped.

Questions about the Backstory....
You know, this scenario doesn't address Japan at all. What happened? Did the Russians invade? Stalin let Chiang beat Mao in China? Was the Manhattan project put on hold?

@Pericles:
I am in the manner of thanking the SL people in general.
Every little helps!
Your no-nonsense advice for my last scenario was a catalyst for my approach to this one.
I still credit you for that...
Now enough modesty!

The action really centres in Europe.
The 1944 capitulation of Germany led to a copycat action by Japan.
The bomb never reached it's zenith, as it was never needed.
Japan is now basically is under US rule, but has been given back some self-government.
Answerable to US HQ in Tokyo, of course.
In this timeline, Mao became a non entity after Japan collapsed and the USA helped China solidify and isolate the communists.
As China, you have to finally destroy the chinese communists at the onset of the scenario.
I didn't want to give the USA too much of a massive foothold in the east...
In game terms, the USA must help beat off the WARPAC sponsored forces in asia...

It would be a simple matter of changing the events.
Only 4 of the empires are really fun to play.
Independents and neutrals exist to get a kicking...

Hmmm...I know you're not working on this anymore, but I'm playing as the Chinese, and when I get Military Upgrade II I can produce MiG-15s, but no longer Sherman tanks. Is this supposed to happen? Is there a way I can fix this?
