If It Looks Like Molasses, Smells Like Molasses, and Tastes Like Molasses ...
... then it must be Apolyton's loading times!
Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system after having 'Poly run like water for "x" amount of time, only to grind to a halt (i.e. the molasses reference) an "x" amount of time later during the same day. Day in, day out, light traffic, heavy traffic ...

I have no problems. Well, except for yesterday, but then I suddenly realized I had Kazaa open...

I used to think Poly was always slow, till I switched from IE to Netscape 7.0. Changing browsers sometimes can make noticable differences in load times.

Lunchtime, yes. Always slow then.
BTW, have you ever tasted molasses? What did you really think?

(1) Get a new browser
(2) Get a better connect
(3) Close Kazaa, you intellectual property thief
(4) Don't get on during peak hours.
(5) Hm, need (5) for a good, rounded list. Any (5)s?

Heh. I've got broadband and you can't get much better than that (hmm ... a high-speed dedicated line just for me to an Internet backbone would be nice, but not financially reasonable).

(3) I don't partake in programs such as Kazaa.
(4) Is 2 a.m. CST in the United States peak usage time in Europe?

I could insert a snide remark about el cheapo PCs with their bug-ridden Windows software/bloatware here, Imran, but I'll be an adult and refrain from such childish behavior.

Didn't you just do that, Gatekeeper? BTW, you should try Windows XP, I've never had such a stable computer as the one I have now, that has XP.

(1) Well, if you're already using Opera or Moz or something that's okay. But it's true, different browsers return different loading times!
(2) Yes, but Master told me not to tell any body.
(3) Suuuuure
(4) CST? That's the time zone 'Poly servers are in. (I think so, at least. ) You shouldn't have that much trouble with everything, unless your broadband is ripping you off.
(5) Get a PC.

I have dsl and I have experienced many extreme slowdowns in the last week, so that a page can take in excess of a minute to load at times. This happens with both Opera and IE. I assumed it was more teething problems with the new server.

If you ever get that long lag time, do what I do: Open up a new window so you have 2 poly windows. While you wait for one thread to open, read the thread you already downloaded in the other window.

Well, if I ever get a spare $600 or so, maybe I'll pick up a PC and play around with it. But right now, most of my savings are intended for a new 1G iMac by the time fall rolls around.

(1) Agreed. I'll probably give Apple's Safari a shot once I get around to buying a new Macintosh.
(2) Heh.
(3) No, seriously. I don't use Kazaa or similar programs. I do wish they'd return CD singles to the stores, though. Aside from that, Apple's new music store — 99 cent downloads and you own it — looks like it has potential, especially once it expands its song database.
(4) Yep. Same time zone as 'Poly's server in Texas. I figure some slowdown can be attributed to the fact that my broadband is cable, which means the more people using it, the more it might slow down a bit due to traffic demands.
(5) No.
